you are SO funny Ralphie

Hi ya all. Been checking on Tom today and he is out free-ranging now and seems to be doing okay. Of course eating is not the same as it once was. Its a learning curve for him too.

When the DH returns to the yard I have him call me so I am outside and around the DH when he is getting out of the truck. I don't mind dropping what I am doing to keep my birds beak intact. Whats left of it.

I didn't do any culling today but I slept for four hours! Holy Cats! I figured it would be easier (?) to do the deed when I was not tired and when I was feeling better. LOL. I don't think that cheerful culling is a possibility.

Busy night tonight playing in the dirt! I just about have all of my plugs transplanted into bigger pots. I have all kinds of repurposed pots that i have saved over time, found around my farm, and also some washed/used solo cups! I have about 30 more tomatoes then they are done. Peppers are still quite small and will need more time before transplant

Also some update photos from my chicks! They are starting to grow 'shoulder feathers' and got upgraded to the 'Big Girl Feeders' tonight :p

That is quite a biased article :) fear mongering for people who wont make sure the claims are true!

Ducks wont ruin your yard --> Ducks like to dig holes! my dug up stuff by the roots to eat!
Ducks are hardier in winter --> if you dont mind keeping water open and clean in the winter
Chickens dont know to tuck their heads in the cold -->not true by any means!

Not to beat on you for sharing.... just my combo of chicken love and technical writing background meshing :)

For me it is that everyone makes fun of me because I am the only one in the small town that raises chickens, so every time I ask a girl out on a date, they say no because people make fun of me. Take today for example, I was in the newspaper 2 weeks ago for raising chickens, and my grandma, she had good intentions, she bought me a t-shirt that states, "Chickens Make Me Happy", to wear at the interview, but it didn't come in until yesterday and she made me wear it today, so everyone in my grade, 9th grade, made fun of me for it.
People always seem to have to pick on or talk about someone. I always say, let them talk about me, my life is soooo much more interesting the way they talk about it, and when they talk about me, they are leaving some other, (less thick-skinned) poor person alone. Be proud of being unique.

Okay, that's all right. I don't know if I would be able to get them for sure. I have a 3 year old Maiden rock bantam hen, and a pair of Mille Fleur Old English Game bantams, which will be a year old sometime this spring I think. Along with 11 ducks and two geese.

@bantiesrule do you remember when they did hatch?

That's fine, don't try to grow up to fast though!

Wow he is younger than I thought!

Nope there are at least 4 I think.
They would either be June 5th or 29th.

Jerry, the june berry I refer to is a small tree similar to pin cherry or chokecherry. It is commonly known as service berry and latin name Amelanchier. Very good ornamental and has edible berries, which look and taste somewhat similar to a blueberry.
They are also known as Sasskatoons in Canada. Very hardy and tastey. (My sister has these also.)

Just stopped at tractor supply, they only had ducklings, very cute though

Ducklings are always so cute and so soft.

And squishy! I held a wild mallard duckling once, I caught some of a mama mallards babies after she was separated from them. They ZZzzzzooooommed across the water! I had never expirienced ducklings before.
Afterwards I took them back to mama, she was waiting :)
