And MNBrewDude glad chicks had a good night in the coop. Good weather is on the way now. it won't be long you can just shut that light right off and not even worry about it.
Hey Ivie, do you know how long I can keep guinea fowl eggs outside in the cold without the mother sitting on them before they go bad?![]()

Well, I was up at 0200 and checked on them, found them all sleeping fairly closely under the lamp, but not necessarily piled atop each other. I was worried when I saw some frost on my windshield this morning when I went to check on them, but was pleased to find they were running around, eating and drinking water (even though they got their first experience at ice chipping with their beaks!). The area under the brooder lamp was 65 degrees and not one bird was under there! I got some extremely hearty buckeyes from Minniechickmama, so they seemed to be doing well. I'll check on them again this afternoon and try to let them out to forage some. After last nights lows, the upcoming 40's and 50's for lows will feel like tropics for my chicks!hi mnbrewdude - how are the chickies this morning? and welcome to this thread. I am going to move my last three four-week old chicks to the 'nursery' today as it warms up. It too has a brooder lamp inside with double hooks for the cool nights yet. There are five in there ages 5 to 9 weeks and they have done fine with the brood light and are often outside. So how are they this morning?
The picture doesnt show the scale well, but this ash pile (from burning brush on sunday) is about 25-30 feet in diameterthere are some places where the ashes are 10-12" deep from how much crap we burned haha
It was still warm last night. assuming it doesnt rain today I will be out there scooping a few pails of ashes to dump in the girls favorite dusting spots
Morning fellow-chickeners, I have a question for anyone who knows the answer, how long can you keep guinea fowl eggs outside without the mom sitting on them before they go bad?![]()
