Surviving Minnesota!

I moved the chicks tonight from the indoor brooder to the coop brooder. They jumped and flapped their wings - a lovely sight.
Next week 12 Jersey Giant chicks are leaving for their new home in Scandia.

The Lady Vet called, The lab rushed my poor hen's test and she is alright! She is free and I am no longer under quarantine!

I sure like this weather! I started my day at 4am, Did some paper work and egg care stuff while drinking coffee.

Then after that was done, and visiting here, of course, I went out and worked on chicken stuff all day.

I took about an hour and a half Grandpa nap this afternoon. Then back outside. It was so nice, a little windy but I will take it over last Mondays weather! Snow and 75 degrees 3 days apart! Wow...

Judy came out at about 7 and brought some Mike's. with her. We watched "Chick TV" We sat in front of the pen with the chick playground in it. It was great watching them climb and jump. Roost and fly off! We watched Igor and are really feeling sorry for her. She is so small. She has, we think, been held back once and I am afraid I might have to hold her back again. We were trying to figure out if she is one or two classes behind now. Her neck is so bad. Her legs work, but I am not sure we did her any favor fixing them with her bad neck.

After the Mikes judy helped me feed and water some birds. We finished around 9. I love long days like that when I can do what I want. I had planned to put new brakes in my truck. Oh Well, there is always tomorrow, and if I do not have a tomorrow, I saved the money on the new pads!

For anyone that's wondering, my track meet went amazing. All of the 8th graders on my team did very good, I got 1st in 200 hurdles, 4th in 100 meter dash, 1st or 2nd in 100 meter hurdles, and I placed in the 200 meter dash I don't know what though since i had to leave.
I then had to go to my younger sisters recorder concert, I missed most of her, but I had to stay and listen to the rest of the elementary band and choir

, which is either very funny, or very boring.
We then came home, I collected eggs, locked the coop up and came back up to the house, a few minutes later it started to rain!!!!

Its now raining a little bit, and there's an amazing lightning show going on outside my window!!

BC u know u cant tell us your getting hatching eggs without stating what kind!

Holm this is for my friend's kindergarten class hatch project which I take home chicks from. We are going to put in some new hampshires, blue silkies, black ameraucanas, and Welsummers. I will be taking home some wellies and ameraucanas. I want to color up my cartons. Heading to Minnie's Sunday morning. I hear we may cross paths!

Ivie your buildings look amazing. What a nice place you have there. I had a RIR rosey as well. And she was the roosters favorite. I think those girls are so fertile with their eggs and so calm temperament end the boys just loved her. She would often hide a lot of the day just to avoid the

Today I raked up Sadie's pig sty back yard. I have two piles of shredded cord wood and plastic.

I have a photo of the birds in the straw but BYC has decided I will not be able to upload on their mobile site once again. Very fickle.

I've started introducing raw feeding with my dogs. They seem to know the difference between killing said animal (which they don't) and taking it from me. Keeps them occupied chewing raw bones rather than chewing everything in the yard (mostly kids toys).

And, can I get an Amen on the app not letting you post photos! Weird!

Erlibird - it is mainly residential construction. New, Kitchens, Bathrooms, Basements, Additions, Decks, Roofs, Siding, Windows, Gazebos - gives you a pretty good idea. He helped sub the elevator at church and as is his usual foray I am sure he observed the whole process. This one he did himself and it has these cement blocks he made hanging down between the studs that do something with the process. He worked on it for months. It was built in lieu of building permits and variances. He and my DS came up with the idea.

Your place is really nice!

So I was excited to finally watch a movie last night (interstellar) that I wanted to see but DW wouldn't watch. I finally got sat down around 930 to watch it thinking I would be to bed by a 11:30 or so, failed to realize the movie was 3 hours long! I couldn't turn it off either! So I didn't get to be until almost 1 then had to get up extra early to get all the chores done..... Sigh it is a coffee IV kind of a day me thinks :)

Okay, so we just watched that, too. The younger kids kind of come and go (play) when sci-fi is on. But the next day, we had flurries. My typically absent minded middle son called us over...some of the snow is going up and not down, right by the house! LOL He thought someone was sending a message! ROFL!
Just goes to show they're always learning, always processing!

Today is book work day. Pay the subs day. They do like to get paid.

Spent this beautiful day inside, taking care of office stuff, too. I feel you.

Do you mean a rake like this?

I have one of those and they do wonders for de thatching and cleaning the yard plus I use it to break up the poo behind the broiler tractors

What! I thought you needed a tractor to have one of these! What are they called stand alone? I will have to search Craigslist for one!

Carp are good smoked . I feed fish to my dogs and sometimes chickens.

This morning it is 42 here and in Longville . High of 62 here and 70 in Longville . That does not happen often .

For once, my weather was better than yours! 75 and sunshine, baby!
That is a great idea, to feed the fish to the dogs! Always looking for ways to reduce the feed bill!

Today's my first JH track meet. So I don't get to see the chickens all day

I didn't get any sleep last night, probably only about 3 hours. I'm really anxious for the meet, but anxious in a bad way..

I was into track at your age, too! Good times! As a childhood asthmatic, didn't do very well. But completed a triathlon a few years back, just to finish, not to place. Very empowering just to finish. Three kids later, I'm working back up to being able to run a 5K.
Enjoy yourself!

Aren't suckers bottom feeders ;-) ?

Yeah, but perfect for cleaning up the stock tank! ;)

I too have been feeling ambitious.  I really want to get into my vegetable garden since it was over grown with weeds last fall and needs careful attention to get out all those weeds and seeds.  I want to burn it but there's a huge swamp with ample dry fuel right next to it.  I'd be on DH's Poo-poo- list if I had all his Volunteer Fire fighter friends were out fighting a fire we started.

I'm afraid it's yank and pull and dig for me. The fencing let in a rabbit early on and is in need of repair.  IDK...I may just work on that area closer to the house instead...or maybe first.  As that was an original plan for me this winter.   I need to get my Mosquito dunks out too.  This warm weather is bound to put a bug or two in the atmosphere. Frogs are chirping away.  I LOVE that sound....

I am off to Park Rapids for DS Golf Match. I'm excited to see him play.  TTYL Chickeneers.

Oh, man, tell me about the weeds last year! If my veggies grew half as well, my grocery bill would be down!

Does anyone here have Roller Pigeons, or know someone that has some for sale?

Know an owner, not for sale, though. Sorry, they are pretty cool to watch!

That is my favorite. But u cant get gas station sushi! Osaka in Fargo has the best Sushi! When we're in the cities we might have to find a good place... Yummy

I haven't been able to trust sushi or sashimi here besides Sakura in St. Paul. I will take your recommendation under advisement!

Very happy for you!

Regarding sushi or sashimi: Saji Ya in Saint Paul - $$$ but awesome.
Whole Foods, Kowalskis, Lakewinds Ccop make theirs on site.

Annoys me though, when I lived in Japan I'd buy the same sushi and sashimi at a local grocery store for a couple of bucks. And I knew those fish were still swimming in the ocean that morning.

That is great news on your rainbow. I think she needs a name. "Lucky" comes to mind. I'm glad you chose a mini quarantine and further testing for her. It's amazing to me the science of these tests and how a persons or birds chemistry can give false positives. Did you know Lyme disease tests have a alarmingly high false negative rate? Our physicians up here are to the point that if you've walked in the woods and feel like crap you're getting the doxycycline anyways. I don't know if they even test much any more. Anyways...

We do get her beef soup bones and boil them first as the raw bits stick hard to the bones and they begin to rot and stink. ( learned from a bone that didn't cook through) they are the only thing tough enough to last for her. In the yard there are shredded tennis balls and golf balls as well.
I keep reminding myself her predecessor chewed holes in 3 of my walls as a pup. She became a great dog. This one is a little more high strung though. A barker. A chaser.
