Surviving Minnesota!

I've started introducing raw feeding with my dogs. They seem to know the difference between killing said animal (which they don't) and taking it from me. Keeps them occupied chewing raw bones rather than chewing everything in the yard (mostly kids toys).
Mine is getting half her diet raw she's doing well on it.

I pull it with my lawn tractor. The whole thing is maybe only 4' wide? 5' tops so it is easy to maneuver. I have heard them called 'estate rakes' and dethatching rakes before if you are looking for one.

Ours is 60', so 5 ft. I am going to try and pull it with the 4 wheeler too. However, even low range might be too fast.

Have you ever flipped your wheels so it rakes to the middle? I am going to try that making a bunch of small windrows for my yard broom to pick the stuff up from.

No mine wouldn't be able to do that without major mods. The one I posted above is just one I found on google images that is similar to mine.
Mine does make a good windrow as is and then I suck it up with my vac trailer

BC, I can't name her lucky. I was thinking Typhoid Mary would be cute. We already have a "lucky" that egg the grandkids put in the incubator.

I sure wish I knew what he is, he is huge! If not for his color I would think Bert had one egg hatch. I think Lucky is moving to a new home next week. He is going to make someone a really nice rooster. He has gotten big enough that he eats out of the top of the feeder.

The one week old chicks got a couple of new toys.....toilet paper tubes. While the 3 day old chicks are still playing the game "Stayin Alive - Stayin Alive". When my son asked why I gave the chicks toilet paper tubes my husbands response...."So they can wipe their own butts." Son gave the eye roll. But I am kinda tired of cleaning pasty butts. Only 1 of my week olds is having to be checked but 10 out of 15 of the younger ones were pasted. Any ideas why so many....These were the resends from Hoover's Hatchery....they did look pretty tough (in comparision to the prior week), so I gave them Save-AChick Probiotic & Electrolytes. Do you think the Save a chick is pasting them up?

Ralphie, glad to read that you got the report on the hen and you are all clear.
A Dogfish is perhaps the ugliest freshwater fish there is. I would eat eelpout before I would eat a Dogfish. I have never tasted Carp, but have had smoked Redhorse and Sucker which is very good if the fish are caught in spring when the water is still cold. When I was a kid we used to catch many many Suckers and Redhorse during their spring spawning run. The Redhorse really put up a fight and are fun to catch.

BC, a run to Minniechickmama's for eggs? You should end up with some quality birds assuming you hatch goes well.

Spring is finally here and with it is time to complete many projects. It seems that I need to get cracking if I plan to accomplish half as much as Ralphie!

Does anyone here have Roller Pigeons, or know someone that has some for sale?

Just curious - will you be using them for competition? I always thought that was pretty cool.

That's a great deal! Welps is the only other hatchery I know of that does frees shipping and I think their minimum is 25. Excellent color choices!

That is my favorite. But u cant get gas station sushi! Osaka in Fargo has the best Sushi! When we're in the cities we might have to find a good place... Yummy

If you travel through St. Paul I recommend Ruam Mit Thai if you like Thai food. I guarantee it's the best you'll ever have. I'll be working in St. Paul this weekend and I pretty much live off of their food when I'm out that way.

Holm this is for my friend's kindergarten class hatch project which I take home chicks from. We are going to put in some new hampshires, blue silkies, black ameraucanas, and Welsummers. I will be taking home some wellies and ameraucanas. I want to color up my cartons. Heading to Minnie's Sunday morning. I hear we may cross paths!

How exciting for the kids!

Pasty butt is usually caused by the chicks being too warm. do they have a way to get out from under the heat lamps to regulate their temps? you may also need to raise the lamps a little.

Basically they get too warm so they drink more which causes runny poo that sticks in their fluff and you know the rest of the story!

I had bad pasty butt issues last year and made some adjustments this year and only had to wipe 2 or 3 butts of 75 this year
