Surviving Minnesota!

All of mine are going to freezer camp.

Same. Except for Bubba. I couldnt justify killing a good rooster. But the son of Lucky and his brotuer are going to make a nice center piece for the kitchen table. I may try find them homes. But if they have Luckys attitude they are going to camp.

BTW are u doing a BYC camp day?

Just made Bogtowns Creamy Cucumber Salad and Mr. Picky (that would be my DH) drooled over it. Our new cucumber salad receipe. Thank You Bogtown!

Next I will try that home-made Italian Dressing receipe. Not tonight but next.

We may have to try it...

We are tentatively planning one, with skinny roosters. I only have a few fat roosters and I need to keep a couple of them for breeding.

I will never send a good rooster to freezer camp.. And I only have 2 bad roosters, and they're both not worth butcheting

You should say, you will try to never send a good rooster to camp. It cannot be helped sometimes unless you plan to go broke feeding roosters.

I should try that recipe, I have about 500,000 extra cukes. but the plants have been dying on me, so there may not be any pickles this year...

I got delayed and bought and planted started cukes. I hope to not do that again. They did not spread out like a cuke should.

I inject Italian dressing into roasters. I agree, it is so good when baked. smoked or grilled!

We have gotten 1 1/2 inches of rain in last hour and a half. It has been pouring. It is 8:15 and it is as dark as 10:30!

The wind was terrible, I will check for trees down tomorrow. I just came in from shutting up the shed. The chicks were not happy with this weather.

All of my roosters are good so far (but most are still young, so who knows), but I have too many to keep. The Bresse boys' dad is my layer flock top rooster, and he has been so great. Never one ounce of human aggression in him. Their mom has been a great mama. She has her second batch of chicks this year. This time she hatched out 7, and 8 in my incubator hatched the same day. I gave them to her too, so she is taking care of 15 chicks right now. LOL

Not something I was expecting with Bresse, but nice.

Oh Man Sleepy. They are gorgeous Birds. We are sentimentals here--heavy on the mental--and sought out a barnyard mutt cockerel, that's offspring of my previous rooster. I'm going to be kicking myself this winter when I'm tending to his single comb. Nonetheless he's a sweety right now and I'm glad we have him. yay Junior.
P.S. I still love your quote on the bottom, "I just want to drink coffee, raise chickens and take naps." Amen.

Ivie: it's fun to hear you tried the creamed cucumbers. It's pretty simple. I like taking the flavored cream and putting that on top of the mashed potatoes and gravy too. MMMM...Did you do a roast beef dinner with it? When cucumbers are gone this fall and winter give the cabbage a try too... It was a staple in our house growing up.

We're going camping this weekend and I've packed 3 cucumbers and some whipping cream and vinegar. woot!

Made Broccoli cheese soup and man did that taste amazing tonight. Felt like soup with the rain...

For Halibut we do the broiled fish with a topping of Mayo, Parmaesan, Lemon and Garlic. Halibut is such a delicious fish. That and Mahi Mahi.... Mmmm.

Tucked everybody in the coop tonight. All the teenagers on the floor in my nest boxes.....

Pooping....

Those older hens are mean B's. They are crossing feet upon feet of roost space to be bullies.

That's why 2 of them are going to auction. I think I may wait til the spring then sell them with some hens.. Not sure yet though.

Okay....so there has to be variants or crossing of those black berries Jerry. Remember the photo of the bushes so thick with white blossoms. Well that lady friend of mine that took hat photo is now harvesting those berries. She's near GR. North and East of here an hour. I'd say definitely a different berry...as how can there be such a huge difference in ripening time? Do you think the age of the cane makes a difference as well? Younger, smaller bushes ripen sooner than big old ones? I'm thinking you're theory is more in the running, here....
