Surviving Minnesota!

Good Morning Chickenersssss! It is sooo quiet around here with Tom re-homed. Who knew he made so much noise? Reggie is beginning to step up when it come to keeping his girls in line. I previously said that I added Tom's girls to Reggie's coop and being as they are older, and being as they are establishing a different pecking order, there are squabbles going on. Mostly the two ISA's (who faithfully give me eggs) picking on the other chicks. Those two have always been mean and I do not want any more of them. Supposidly they are good layers for a couple of years and then subcumb to old age.

The funeral yesterday was for my incredible 99 year old cousin once removed. That man was remarkable. At 92 he took me to the original homesite on the St. Croix River Bluffs. He stopped walking the woods at 94 because it was 'becoming a little difficult.' His wife is 91 and they had a full house of 14 kids. So I got to see alot of my second cousins at the funeral. His wife is my cousin once removed also. Adam was my Grandpa's nephew and Winifred was my Grandma's niece. Very nice send off. Sommerset, WI is where my family settled after coming down from Quebec. I learn so much from both of them.

I love the rambling on here. I learn alot from you chickeners rambling.

Now BC - how is that throat doing? Don't you need an anti biotic to get rid of Strep? I absouletly would not take an anti biotic after the one I took in June for the first time EVER! I up my Vitamin C (natural antibiotic - HONEST - but you know that) 1,000's of miligrams. Lottsa water. Lottsa herbal tea. Broth. All seems to help me if I need help.

How is that hand Ralphie? More breeding cages? Doesn't sound like that feed bill is going down anytime soon.

So erlibird - you have your chickens processed? I was thinking of it but felt it would be frowned upon on this thread. I want to create a good impression but . . . I just don't think I have it in me to do the deed.

I Love Layers - so sad to hear about your injured chickie. Did you do the deed yet?

Have fun with that roof this weekend -

Thanks Ralphie! They are a great substitute for the noodles in lasagna.

How are you doing on selling eggs? I probably can help you out with that if you are up to getting rid of them for less. I offered mine to friends and family and they have co-workers and I can give you name out. What say you?

Oh! and one more thing - I am at my desk and need to get some Company work done so will be doing that til Noon or 1:00.

I need to get started before it gets hot . However I will share a chicken processing / cooking method . On roosters about 6 months old they are getting chewy . I skin them and debone the breast , thighs and legs . Save the heart and livers . Any chunk the meat into bite size pieces . These are really good in the crock pot or use your favorite fried chicken coating and fry . Kind of Chinese style chunks . You never notice the chewy texture in these small pieces . If you do several chickens cook the carcass for broth or stock .

If you could give the girls pep talk so they would lay more, it would help. With Bertha and the CLB's I am getting about a dozen a day, we are selling them all every weekend right now. When the youngsters start laying regularly it could change though,

Thanks.

Egg plant Lasagna is my favorite!! I havent had it in a long time though. Ivie it looks like im joining you for supper!

Ivie this was the first time I've taken them for processing, heard about the place from a neighbor awhile back. Dropped them off alive and then picked them up 3 days later all done bagged and frozen the price was very fair. Frown upon me if you will IDC :) If I have a sick or injured bird I'll do the deed myself. It makes me feel bad to whack a healthy one. Now Amy the Awful I probably would have whacked myself she was so disruptive to the whole flock, but I was taking the guys in so ... Find a poultry processing place, it makes your life easier!!

There is a processing place in Brainerd that @Triplell told me about. I will have to go through messages and find it. I believe she said its very reasonable.
