I too remember when Mom got made because mayo started coming with different tops for canning. Somewhere I have a square 2 quart canning jar.i will need to get a picture. As for all of you who are either praying for rain or using your powers to make it rain. STOP! Thursday night we got 3 inches and it is raining now just 30 minutes before we are to start with the roof.

BC I saw your post on the Ameraucana thread . I need to explain the clean faced bird . Someone is sure to ask the breeder or something . So here is why it happened . Everyone was on a improved lacing quest on blues . The general thought was add the pattern gene . Some used blue Andalusian others said Wyandotte . One used blue Sumatra with success . So I tried Wyandotte . These are from that line . I see no real improvement in lacing . My theory is Pg is not involved in better lacing . It must be another modifier . Thought of dropping blue because of this . For sure the few that get the lacing right will dominate the blue class . I no longer see posts about these project crosses . So I have not test bred these breeders to weed out the recessive gene . I thought my splash rooster was purchased . I now remember it was his sire .

Well, not a really chatty bunch today are we?


Looks like we have a 3 hour break in the rain coming. MnChickmom, I hope you get the roof done in those 3 hours! BTW are you still cleaning chickens today? DO you have a chicken plucker? If not I have one I could lend you. It is not the best but is better than nothing.


I canned like crazy yesterday and only have 11 pints of tomato juice or paste and 8 pints of sweet Peppers. I bought that camp stove so I could can outside on the deck, but mother nature screwed up those plans.

My tomatoes are ripening like crazy, but the plants are dying. I have not done any sauerkraut yet. I still have a ton of outdoor chicken work to do, fall is coming, Woe is me.

If you put those on a rooster would it make it so that they couldn't fertilize the egg?

I appreciate the offer ralphie, but we have one. It looks like the chickens will live to see another day. Roofing between showers is really the pits. We had defective shingles so just 10 years ago I had a similar sized crew and they were drinking my adult beverages at 1. This year with 2 professional roofers we are only 1/2 way.
