Surviving Minnesota!

WOW!! Look at all those babies!! Are these all baby Caeser's babies?! I see alot Lilacs and Chocolates!! At least thats what they look like in the pics lol. How is Cleo doing?

Holm! I was telling DH the other day we have to make sure we visit you at the fair. Will you be there Sat? All of those are Caesar's! He's my only drake right now. He's very, ummmm, fertile. Lol! He's also a good Dad, which I was a bit worried about since he doesn't like anything near what he thinks is his. I kept back 3 blues from this hatch hoping to add a barred blue male and use him next year. Then, I should also get some barred babies. Cleo is doing good! She hatched out the first clutch a few months back with another momma Scovy. Now, her and the other female she hatched with are bonded and wander around together. Yup, this bunch was full of Chocolates, Lilacs, a single solid Black (go figure), and 3 Blues.

I had 5 Silvers in my second clutch. At first I figured they were Buff, but was told otherwise by folks who know MUCH more than me. I wish I would have kept them, but they all went to a great home.

Here's a few pictures of the Silvers:

So gallbladder was clear. They were more interested in my right kidney which is a medullary sponge kidney with 2 arenal arteries going into it. Which I already knew about. Looked like there could be stones also had some shadowing the tech was unfamiliar with. I do not have kidney stone symptoms though. I still think it is my gallbladder. It could be a problem with function because there are no stones. I had three vials of blood taken for what looked like 10 different tests. Hopefully we get some answers. Feeling pretty good. Again. I just never know when it will happen. UGH. Just wish it would get figured out. On the plus side no surgery yet so I can get my classroom ready for school to start!

We also had our first 5 egg day! One of our Bovans who I banded and named Early Bloomer because she laid her first pulled egg at 14 weeks, laid one as well as the 4 laying hens! I am expecting the rest to start around Sept 7 when they are 18 weeks. I know some will be later but I willing start watch for them in September.

I moved the remaining 3 babies out of the tree. If something comes down the tree tonight I have a surprise for it...

The day never got better. I think I need vast quantities of adult beverages tonight!

Nothing went right from the moment I found I hade lost 4 babies from the tree.

I had that tree that blew down nearly hitting my van and the layer coop. I decided the other day I would try moving it today, because Judy was off work. I did not think moving a widowmaker when I was alone was too bright.

I did not get it moved until nearly 2pm. I kept the chicken, guineas and turkeys locked in the coop until I got the tree moved. I did not want to hit a bird or run one over with the Bobcat. As soon as I got the tree away from the coop and it was save for the birds to come outside I asked Judy to open the door.

She yelled to me " there is a dead chicken in here".

I figured it would be one of my older gals. I expect them to be leaving this world. It was not. It was a young bird! Matter of fact it was the PC rooster I promised to EJB and I was going to show in Hutch. My heart hit bottom. I could find nothing wrong with him, other than he was dead. His crop was empty so it must have happened in the early morning before he got off the roost even. No marks on him. his insides looked ok. I figure if he had gotten off the roost he would have eaten something and his crop would not be empty. I am dumbfounded and shocked. I may not be going to Hutch now.

I have at least two other PC cockerels, but they are smaller and do not IMHO< have as much potential as this one did.

I don't know why I can't lose the birds I am thinking of culling or getting rid of. Why does it always have to be the better ones?

I have so many I expect to die that don't and good ones do!

Sorry, EJB, I will get you another one, I have one in the rooster pen that will be happy to know he might get out of the rooster pen soon.
