Surviving Minnesota!

Morning! And, yes, I meant MHP (Mama Heating Pad) oops! @Blooie raises babies in an outdoor coop, in the middle of winter if I remember correctly.

That rooster you posted is lovely Ralphie, funny caption!

I suppose I need to get my day started... My list is growing for this fall.

I think the barrettes so they can see us a great idea!

Erli, hope your bear situation clears up, I'd be done with bird seed myself...(at least until winter when the bears are sleeping) birds have plenty if food right now out there...

Thank you Cluckies. DH will keep feeding the bears I mean birds. It was laying next to the feeder it knocked to the ground and DH said it's just a big dog

Well it was a nice wedding yesterday. We are heading home today after I drop my hubby off at the hotel in the cities. He, our son, a friend his daughter, and another father son duo are going to tonight's Viking vs Packer game in the new stadium. They are all pretty excited! Then I get to drive home. Hopefully get home about 8pm or sooner.

A purpose for a barking dog.

I went out and "held" my roosters for their boot camp lesson this morning. It went ok for the biggest part. But the one Judy ruined last night did try to bite me. He did not bite when I reached into the cage like last night. He bit my arm while I was trying to rearrange him and get him snuggled into my elbow. I had a canvas jacket on so I hardly noticed it. We did have a long talk about his new found habit of biting. He apologized and promised to not do it again.

I love walking in the yard just before sunrise or during it. The roosters crowing is so peaceful and relaxing.

I can see why polish can never free range. I can reach into their pen from above and grab anyone I want. they have no idea I am reaching for them. They are the perfect Fufu chicken. I am thinking they may become strictly indoor chickens. Even the appletinies see me and run from me. Their Mohawk does not stop them from seeing up.
I have biten and even bruised by the biting before. I can't hardly blame them though. If you think about it, when they are cornered in a cage or they are being restrained to defend themselves by wing or foot, then their only alternative is to bite. I get it. I don't like it though. I think it is hilarious that my little bity bantam Faverolles bite on when I handle them, but for them it is their way of holding on for dear life. I barely feel it and have to laugh every time they grab on. I have had skeety bites that hurt more.

Judy would have me locked up if I started putting barrettes in the chickens hair....
Funny you mention putting things in the chickens "hair".....
Many breeders will tape or band the top crest on the Silkies up so they don't get all nasty in the water and bedding. LOL! They look pretty goofy, but if it is effective, who am I to laugh?

I just can't see me putting bands in their mops. I can see why the suburban chickeners like them, they are darn cute. Just not real smart.

I have made headway, I have decided I am going to hire myself out as a Speckled Sussex tamer. Both the SS are so easy to hold and monkey with, nothing bothers them. They hang out at the front of their cage, watching us when we or me is in the coop/shed. When I opened the door the one went to the back of the cage when I held my hands out he jumped in. The other one hesitated a few seconds then let me pick him up.

Judy and I held both of them for a few minutes, We could take our hands off them and they stayed in our laps! Good Job on the chicken Taming Ralphie!!!

Now the Doms are another story, 2 out of 3 bit me. None wanted me to hold them. They tried to escape the whole time. I am not sure they will ever become tamed. They just do not like me. The good part is they absolutely hate Judy!

The two PC's are doing ok, but sure are a mile behind the SS's.
