Surviving Minnesota!

That is the funniest one yet.

On another note, I think I might have stumbled on the cause of the woman that lost the CLB pullets. Fatty Liver disease. It strikes mainly females, CLB could be predisposed to it, it has a genetic component. Feeding moldy feed, or high fat treats can cause it. So if you pamper the birds you could cause it...

I tell people all the time to only give treats (other than fruits and veggies) like they are a dessert...sparingly. Extra carbs, like corn will just make them fat and then they won't lay and wont' live as long. I didn't know that some breeds were genetically prone to it more though. Thanks for sharing!

We have some fog here too. But we have a big pond, two creeks and two other smaller ponds. And no Mosquitos

We hardly had a single mosquito this year and I never got a single tick!
Are you trying to jinx yourself???

Jerry, First I am sorry to hear you have the fatty liver disease. I hope you can control it.

Minnie. the stuff I was reading on it says the genetics can contribute to it but cannot cause it. I assume it is like some types of cancers in humans, we maybe predisposed to it, but that does not mean it causes the cancer.

The part about CLB might be predisposed to it is antidotal and taken from a person here on BYC. However, her mother is a vet and I have meet the Mother she seems more than competent.

Do you know anyway to put some weight on my "show birds" fast? There is no making up for getting the birds early, I have learned that. My first hatch in January is going to stay right here or go to friends from here that want show birds. They are too valuable to sell for pennies to strangers....

What are your thoughts on the Doms I showed here? You will not hurt my feelings, or maybe even change my mind on trying to show them.

The hen I want to how has some dusky yellow (blackish) on her toes, I see that will cost me 2-3 points.

How many points can you lose before they flunk? I am so excited to try this even if I do lose, or make a fool of myself, I plan to learn.

Ralphie on the Doms I think the one is not filled out enough . He looks gamey . That is to say he reminds me of a game chicken . Do not obsess over points . The dusky toes are always a problem on single barred . Females are always single barred . Dosage effect of barring on black .That is why double barred males are lighter in color . Did you know at one time Dom and rock were one breed . They split into 2 breeds because of the comb issue . Look different in size and type now .

Interesting....when I first saw ralphies dominiques I thought they were barred rock. Then I saw comb and profile pics. Whole different body shape.

I just had an electrician out to quote me on trenching a power line to the new garage. He says i have to put 100amp service in, i was figuring 50a would do it. probably wont be a bad idea for more if it isnt too spendy. He was looking at the power pole and determined i needed to replace the 'whole kit and kaboodle from the meter down'. I told him that sounded expensive and asked if it was really necessary. he said he supposed he could just replace the box at the bottom where the service lines go into the ground. I may be looking for a second estimate unless this quote comes back super cheap!

anyone have experience with this kind of work? i figured it would be fairly simple

It is fairly simple . I did my own . Electric inspector was a real bellybutton . Keep looking for a better guy . This one sounds like he is going to be pricey .

I am considering doing it myself and maybe just paying an electrician to do the actual hook up to the transfer box. that is a lot of electricity and kinda scares me.

Digging the 120' trench is what makes me want to not do it. not sure if there is anyone around here that rents a trencher
