Surviving Minnesota!

Good morning everyone! My 2 new Cochins had to stay in the coop last night. I just put them on the top part of the area we are working on for them so that the other chickens wouldn't bug them, and they can't jump out even though there's nothing stopping them. When I let them out I had to separately feed them because my other chickens won't let them eat with them.
I sat and listened to Gary crow, if I wasn't so attached to RJ and Buckbeak I would get rid of them or butcher them and just have a Cochin rooster because I love their crow!
Gary my cochin frizzle hates my new cockerel, so this morning he was chasing the new cockerel around again. Finally I went over to them and the new cockerel ran to me and literally jumped in my arms

Good morning Erlibird. And Byc folk. I'm still here and reading. Low on chicken news. I have more black trumpets growing in my yard. Tiny. But you're welcome to them Jerry. Also there's a woman in town that has a new giant puffball growing in her yard. I'm sure if I stopped and asked she'd let me harvest it. We'll have to figure out time for our mushroom forage. I'm still putting in work time on Saturdays. Sunday might be best but not sure how that works for every one.

Junior spent the night outside Friday to Saturday. I had him crowing into the sliding glass door early Saturday. Too busy to count heads Friday I guess. But all is well. He's been putting out predator calls yesterday as DS saw a hawk circling. DH was also cleaning ring bills on the tail gate. So not sure what was freaking him out. Lol. He's really developing and getting prettier by the day. Got a compliment on him yesterday from DH's friend. So feeling like a proud chicken mom.

Morning all!

Another grey crappy day. I see on the radar there is a rainy front sweeping north to south across most of the state so I'm sure we are all going I be wet today. I'm tired of this weather!!

Thought DW was going to wring the necks of a few of our roosters. We were out with the dogs and here comes out hound being chased by 2 SS roos she declared that we will not be keeping a single SS rooster and that is final. They have been pestering her too especially when she has a bucket of feed. She even took a shoe off one day and chucked it at one. Even the nice ones are becoming belly buttons!

My Putor is back.

I pulled the battery, unplugged it put the battery back and plugged it in, pounded on it with a highly technical chiropractor-like pound in just the right spot and it works!

Sunday works for me BC. I am open.

We went to visit Judy's sister yesterday, I took 40 guineas with me for the drive. Judy's Sis said she thought she could sell them all from her yard. She had advertised them on some website, I have no idea what or where..

She told people they she would have them Sunday afternoon at her house. I sold them all. People bought smaller numbers than I would but eventually they were all gone. I am happy to be down to just next years breeders of them.

It was time for us to visit them anyways so it was a twofer!

Now I can work on the others and get rid of those I need too. Minnie, I think I will be showing a pair of Dom's young or not. I can hear what the judge says. I was wondering about the combs on some of them. They are a lot like a flat rose comb shaped cushion comb on a few. I thought maybe it was something Urich was going for.

Wow, you live in a different state than me! Sunny and not a cloud in the sky here..

And my SS roosters are the sweetest roosters I have. Even the 2 I have in Bird show boot camp are sweeties. We just open their door (they each have their own cage) reach in and they first back off, then walk right into our arms.......( take that little girls with pet chickens at the show)... I have never seen them be aggressive except in cases where I want them to be protective. If it was not for the single comb they would be the perfect bird.

Morning . Sunday will work for me . Cooled off here finally . Good thing . Loading should be easier with drier air and cooler temps . Puter will be boxed and shipped this afternoon . So I will have to share DW puter while on my trip .

The sky clears out and the sun is shining now. Still see chances for rain at dinner time though.

I keep telling DW that the issue is because we have too many so they are competing. We will see but I think the damage is done and she won't be happy if I spare any. She has her eye on keeping a buckeye rainbow cross we hatched. It's got long long legs, a rose comb, and rainbow barring/coloring. It's also quiet and not aggressive. I was thinking it was a pullet but she claims she saw it 'doing boy stuff' with a hen. I haven't heard it crow. I should get some pictures.

Either way I need to reduce the number of roosters around here as the insistent crowing is eroding my patience

So it's homecoming week this week, and today's dress up day is Hobo day. First off I don't know how the teachers let them do that. Second off I've seen about 1/4 of the school and no ones dressed up for it

Holm it sure looks like chicken of the woods. I'm unsure of the brownish part. The outer ring or yellow part will be most tender. As they get older there is less water in them ...and I think I almost like them better to be honest...? We had one really plump like that one this year...lots of water in it. A little bit sour on the taste whereas last years specimen was flatter/dryer and I think I liked it better. More "chicken" like. My preferences only.
