Surviving Minnesota!

whoever said coons are not worth anything never fed them to their chickens! this should be a poster hung outside the chicken coop as a warning.
400

I wouldn't let them eat that! Most animals carry different types of worms like Jerry said

I used to cook whole skinned carcass in a old pressure canner / cooker to feed to the hounds . I now do deer bones in half of a old water heater tank over the turkey burner . Heat kills any parasites . I no longer trap except to protect my chickens .

I have decided (maybe) to take Ed to the New Ulm show. I was watching him tonight and I think I did bad breeding somehow. My Cockerels are not as good looking as Ed is. He is darker and does not have the red spots on the breast/chest. In addition to being fully mature and filled out. I will still take Wienerhead too.

I wonder how Ed will take to his bath if I get warm weather. I am thinking of taking a trio, the two hens I got from EJB and Ed. They are all good looking birds. Also I have decided the 2 PC chicks I have (late hatch) are both pullets! YEAH!!!!!

Also I got 2 DOM eggs today again! The pullets in the outside pen have not started laying the ones in the pole barn have. I suppose it has to do with the extra light they get there.

Kloppers did you say you got construction lights? How many and how far apart on the cord are they? I am thinking I need some.

Rainy day but warm. I will take it.

Beautiful pics Minnesotanice!! I love the Muscovys! They are beautiful birds!!

Holm! I was going to message you the other day just to say hi! I've had a sick little one for a few weeks - time got away from me. What have you been up to? You should see the cool Muscovys I have now. I'm going to have some awesome colors/patterns next year from my hatches. Caesar and Cleo are molting and you wouldn't believe it.....they're blue! I still wonder if they're a light Lilac (or carry chocolate), however, since I had some Buff ducklings hatch out. Well, unless the little ones molt into Silvers. I learned that happens. We'll see - I kept a few back from my hatches along with some Blues.

Caesar and Cleo before and right now when they're just about done molting:

Two of my barred girls this summer:

I just got these three juvies last week - A chocolate/black rippled drake (I won't know what color until he molts his juvie feathers), solid black female, and chocolate/black rippled female:

My adult chocolate ripple female next to my white female. I'll find out what genetics the white carries next year when I breed her:

I went onto Face Book this morning to find some friends from a prior life and I did accomplish that. One of them just had twin grandbabies in June. Very cool. Other than that - what a waste of time! I don't care what other people do - of course I don't. I just don't see the value in Face Book. NOT like our thread - which developes into some kind of relationships - some of us are meeting and making relationships with others of us. There is useful information and there is support for one another in raising chickens.

The political stuff! I pray diligently for this country - this is the best that we can come up with? It is scary.

Okay, okay - I am done harping! Now onto this new story I have for you . . . . . . just kidding

Facebook is full of political ******** and ads nowadays. I do appreciate how it helps me stay in closer touch with extended family and friends. And, like you mentioned, FB is good for helping find people from once upon a time. My 89 year-old Grandpa is even on FB!

I did. The cord is 100' long with 10 sockets/cages along the length (10' apart). it is rated for up to 150w bulbs in each cage. it is more than ample to light my new 1008sqft garage. they also come in 50' sizes. I think i paid $65 or so for the 100' cord

Do yours like the blow dryer as much as my girls do? they love it!

Reloaded some 45 mags tonight.
I convinced my dad that this weekend we are going to take ALL the guns out and shoot some rounds through them. I can't wait!

It is amazing, I thought the blow dryer would really freak them out, by the way the whole bath went, but they love the dryer!

They just stand there and sleep when the warm air hits them.

The turkey did not like any of it, including the blow dryer. Which is why I am a little nervous to take the Tom. He is so big, he could send me to the ER.
