Surviving Minnesota!

22 Hornet. I wouldn't doubt if they bounced off with his head size

It was swimming around in circles after the 1st and 2nd. All of our other 22s aren't as powerful and everything else is a bit to big to be crawling around creek bottoms and taking fast shots with
This was a big arse beaver though. It was probably dead, or very close after the 3rd or 4th shot but 5 just to make sure since my dad hates to see animals suffer.

Yeah a hornet should do the trick. Chances are he was as good as dead after the head shots but I agree about making the end quick

I like to use my 17 on them. It does a good job and travels fast and level.

Yeah a 17 would be good. So fast. My 17 WSM makes quick work of coons and pole cats and it supposed to be good even up to coyotes

I love my 17... It does a good job on varmits... and .270 for deer...

Just came inside from doing chores at my aunts from her... She had one hen out and its a good thing we saw her. Right after we put the hen in we walked to the house and shined a light in the yard and there was a big coyote 50 yards from the house... If he comes back hes gonna have a bad day... He had an awful nice hide on him...

UUUGGHH! I wish I was a technical genius! My Iphone went in to recovery mode and I cant fix it!! I suppose I will be up till 5 trying to figure this out...

Good Morning Chickeners . . . .

Jerryse - whats happening? are you fully recovered? How does your body move this morning in regards to your fall? Whats happening with the roof now that your relatives are there?

A lot of posts to read since I last was on . I am fine just busy . Trying to keep up with the 2 young men helping me roof . Used the treestand harness to tie off . We should be bow hunting but body says not interested . Helpers stayed up late and will not get up . I could be influenced but solo not so eager . Laptop is in the shop to have hard drive wiped to remove whatever is messing it up . Got windy yesterday . I let the helpers quit at 4 to bow hunt yesterday . I kept on working . My grandson stuck a squirrel who took his arrow up into the top of the tree and expired . Still stuck up there . I think he had a target point on . I no longer shoot arrows at squirrels . Too costly especially with a broadhead on . Usually trash everything . Lunch was a disaster . Had to go get more edge sealer . So helpers wanted pizza at the tavern/cafe . Cook burnt the first one . Never told anyone . So very long lunch break . Found out the sealer Menard's has is much better than the EMseal the other guy sold me . You could not put this peel and stick down and pull a sheet over it , Rolled and come unstuck . This ATseal will not come off . I do not like the Rollo Shield synthetic tar paper , too slick and hard to keep nailed . I have used weather Guard peel and stick tar paper once . Light sand surface . Good stuff . I did not know what Rollo Shield was . I will use weather guard on the cabin before steel roofing goes down , I may have figured myself short on steel . The dormer valleys I guess I only figured one valley . Well actually figured one half times 2 . Should have went x 4 . So buy more today . If they have it . Only 1/4 of roof to cover now . So should get it covered .

Good morning all :)

Good to hear the roof is going well Jerry. And that you are also!

Wondering if that's light rain on the deck... I was hoping to get the plastic around the run today. No rain or wind would be helpful.

Sounds like your body must be doing fine Jerryse. Almost done with that roof - which is encouraging. Klops - you will be steel roofing a out building - don't remember which one (another garage?) Hopefully some of the product hints from Jerryse will be helpful. Have a productive good day chickeners.

I am up after a tramadol induced nap.

Jerry, how did you manage to fall off the roof and make me feel like I did?

I was sure today was going to be horrible, but it is actually pretty nice out. I had to go out and check on one of the turkeys. The stupid thing refused to go to bed and roosted on the top of the bird netting support pole. Even a turkey has to be exceptionally stupid. He sat up on the highest point where and owl can take him with no obstructions. In addition Turkeys being almost as dumb as ducks can get stuck in the netting. I had one get stuck in the netting and tip upside down, had I not seen it in time and cut it out it would have been compost. Which BTW is a good use for ducks but not turkeys.............

I am thinking of taking a little walk in the woods, these last few warm days might have hatched a few edible fungi out there. Or I could do what I should and work in the yard/coops. I am thinking I should have a "seminar and training session" here for all of you.

The items we will cover are:

Picking up stuff that make it hard to snowplow
How to build a incubation and hatching room
Building Poop boards and splitting a coop into to parts
The proper way to stack bales on a well pit to prevent freezing
How to assemble and fill a 'portable" garage for mowers and such
The proper way to use a chain saw
How to bathe a extra large turkey
How to build a toad fence

I am sure there are other items we could cover, the best thing is I have decided to forgo the normal tuition for this seminar and offer it as a free seminar to help each become better chicken wranglers...

My generosity overwhelms me on occasion, this is one of those times.

BTW Judy wants to add " how to build a front steps and deck" I am not as concerned about that one.
