Surviving Minnesota!

Do you have any good recipes for the loin? I was thinking about trying to smoke a piece of it to see how that foes
McCormick's Mesquite Marinade. Then Grill. Delicious. I have not tried smoking venison before. I'm sure that would be good too. I'd marinade before smoking though as well.

Not really . I do have a jerky marinade recipe I like . I sometimes do backstraps into jerky . Well I got to get out there .

Backstraps into Jerkey? Somewhat sacriligious there Jerry!

We will cut Steak cuts thin and marinade and dehydrate into jerkey.... but not so much those delicate tender backstraps. Those we keep for fancy dinners. (Total rednecks) I used to take our veni-burger or grind and put into a jerkey maker and did that not long ago. DH chewed me out for that now. Spaghetti and Tacos with that. LOL.

Ralphie, in my experience the shot does not have an immediate effect but actually takes a couple of days to display the benefit?
My Father just recently had cortisone and yes, like Ed says it may take a bit to get you going and might even be a bit worse at first as the fluid displaces sore tissues and aggravates them a bit before settling them down. Give it a bit of time...

Just got back from hunting this morning.

While we were walking to a hill we were going to post up on. We saw a huge 6x6 buck 30 yards across the fence on our Million Dollar Neighbors. We sat on the hill walked around the pasture.
We sat in some brush where I saw a HUGE buck on Linster Hill, a huge hill that you can see about 13 miles around on, where we usually post. I wish we would've been closer but i would never take a 1/2 mile or more shot. He ran down along the fence line. I couldn't see him for a while so we got up. We saw 2 other mulie bucks who were at least 5x5s, chasing some does around. so we were quickly walking around a ridge so we could post up across from them. We stop and we look down about 30 yards away a 4x4 mulie gets up from laying down and sees us. I chambered a round and waited for him to turn broadside. Instead he backs up and over the ridge

Then the 5x5 mulie ran onto our million dollar neighbors land and we couldn't find the 4x4 so we came back for lunch

Morning all. Been reading ya'll heritage info with interest . My dad was born in the Black Forest area of Germany. Of course they are all gone now....and I miss those German accents.

And for you deer hunters...someone in Tennessee shot a 47 point deer. Potential record for our state. They showed a picture on the news. Was rather freaky looking. Not sure how that poor buck was able to walk with out falling forward.

Seems its finally turning into fall down here. We are just this week getting down in the 40's at night. I've had to start wearing socks with my flip flops.
Maybe one of those that has that weird antler growth where they branch in clusters. I don't remember if it is a genetic mutation or something like a parasitic thing that causes it. They do look almost like a prehistoric throwback.

I think it's June Carter. Minnie would it be her? Gosh she's so darn cute and innocent and not acting goofy at all. I would have never expected her to go first.

And this photo is for Jerry and Ralphie.
And my homegirl Ivie.

I was down near the coop on my lunch hour, as my Dad came over a day early to cut up those two downed trees. I thanked him for his service here on Veterans day as well as his service cutting up my rotten popples that fell down. Boy he zipped them up fast. He's getting in shape this fall with the chainsaw. He is about done with the winter wood cutting at his already. Anyways I was down there moving the big branches he cleaned off the trees and I thought I should check the coop. Figuring I'd just be getting poop on my shoes and an empty pocket again. Shining there was the tiny olive pullet egg waiting on me.

DH hunted the woods nearby this AM and Junior was going off from around 9-10AM singing the egg song apparently. He thought he was predator calling, but he was singing along to the egg song I'm sure. Now I wonder when the rest of the youngins will start with their first eggs.

That would appear to be your candidate for the green or blue eggs, dear. I have two of them laying that are about her age, one just a little lighter color than the other.

I do have Jerry's 3 ameraucanas here also. But I'm thinking more blue eggs for Blue and lavender Ameraucas which then leaves your little black pullet for an olive egg. I'm tickled I will have olive eggs in my basket now! Woot!

I am so glad you like the egg color, Olive eggs are a good addition..

However, I think you should dye the Carhartts duck brown.,,,,,, They are so not Politically correct in that blue,

I forgot to tell you, I got rid of the SS Rooster that decided he wanted to be Sunday dinner.

He went to live with MnMomChick. He did not attack me today, he was actually really good with me. It might have something to do with the way I pulled him out of the cage yesterday, Crowed at him, screamed and held him upside down on the floor.

He looked scared.....

Today he did not even peck at me when I took him out of the cage. I also pawned off an young Yokohama Cockerel on her. She won't know about it until her DH brings it home. He only had one cage so we used the Asian chicken in a gunny sack method. My Yokohama's are reaching puberty and the fighting is driving me crazy. They are the meanest little birds to each other. I have taken a couple out of the cage, it is not helping much. I might take the pullets out and let the cockerels kill each other. Then use the winner for breeding,

They looks so cool, but act so bad. I have one in the pen with the larger rooster to go to the Nice Asian Lady's house. Since he was put in with the large roosters he has been much better behaved.
