Surviving Minnesota!

Jerry you really know how to forage! Even in less familiar north woods. This fall I tried pickled wild leeks. They were good... But the way they were pickled perhaps I'd like them better with a different recipe.
Well then I bet that blue egg is most likely Hattie's egg then. Beardless blue. She's been roosting next to Junior at night last week or so. She's the lead out of those 3 also. A good girl.

Oh shoot I didn't set my DVR for chicken people and missed it. Of well. Sounds like a dud...?

Got a snow path shoveled to the coop. Birds came right up to the house. Grazed on the grass in the path. The lavender and black new girls had their freak out about the snow as newbies. But they managed to unstuck themselves. Old hens leading the way like pros. Lol. New bucket of wood ash from mom and dad for our dusting bin. Girls did their baths yesterday.

Another day of visiting the folks and sister up from the cities.
The wild ramps that grow in the woods ? I do not have the refined taste I guess . Give me a onion if I want onion flavor . Lot of trouble for very little root .

I bet the contents of the ash pan from burning wood pellets would make a good dust bath for them! Never thought of that before! It certainly wouldn't freeze, here in the S.D. climate and being inside a building.
I was disgusted with the Chicken People show! Didn't know it was going to be about showing chickens.

It was still a good show. Lots to learn for me.
I use ash for mine since our main hear source is a fire place. But we mainly use it on the driveway.

We got a whole lot done this weekend, chicken coop winterized, sickles taken off the sickle mower, I insulation covers on tanks, and today we are cutting and splitting wood.
My mom took Lilly out for a ride in the pasture we were cutting wood in, she did really good. My older sister rode her back my mom and I walked by her, she's neck, foot and direct reined which is really nice. Then my sister and I went on a ride I got Sneaks and she got our 22 year old mare, Bert, for about 1/2 an hour then my younger sister rode on Bert and her and I went our for about a 1/2 hour ride. Sneaks was exhausted, so was Bert

I learned a lot from it and loved it! I personally like shows like that... But that's my opinion...

I think my mom has been bitten by the chicken bug.... She was just telling me how if I am going to get a pair of Cochins for breeding I might as well find a big breeder to get more from so I could hatch more! So looks like I should try find some breeders this spring...

Most of the good breeders for cochins ship juveniles right now. I'm pretty sure Jamie Matts has a bunch available now
