Surviving Minnesota!

Morning . Cold and windy here . The big freeze coming . Think I will fire up the wood stove in the shed today . Good day to work inside . Need to finish the roll up door install . Make room for the boxes and assembly of sawmill . About 2400 pounds on 2 pallets 51 boxes I think they said . Delivery between 10 and 4 or maybe 5 . Norwood says 2 days to assemble . I will guess 4 days . Depends on what life throws at me . Friday I have insurance meeting . So a big chunk of time gone . Weather is going to make it tough on working outside .It is December and January is no fun either .

Pretty cold here. And dark, when it gets like this my dad takes care of my chickens

. It's a pain in the butt to have to walk all the way down to the yard just to give them water in the morning, so my dad does that while he waits for the tractor to warm up to go feed. I still do evening and weekends though.
I think my turtles are anorexic

they literally won't eat anything. Its not like the hibernate either! 3 years I ago I did have one get out of the tank, he lived, even after about a week not in the tank, he was under a carpet.

What kind of turtles do you have and they are in an aquarium?

Would be a great day for a wood stove. I'm excited to see your assembled saw!

I need to get my new wood stove set up in my shop. I am struggling to drop the $500 on chimney parts. Ouch!! It will be worth it but that still kicks the ol' wallet

We don't have a furnace, just a wood stove. They are definitely worth it. That's what our main heating has been for my whole life.

Good Morning Chickeners . . . .

Cluckies - when I make more hen aprons I am going to add that tail coverup.

Went out to the coop to check on the girls and find out how they survived the night. Turned on the lights. Its nice in there. Not warm enough for the DH in his recliner unless it has heat but not unpleasant either. I was going to cave and give them a little heat for a while just to relieve the sudden cold. Changed my mind. Gonna cook them some oats for something warm. Lottsa protein. Corn at night before Roost time.

I went to visit the chickens this morning. I was pleasantly surprised the water was not froze up. (We have insulated coop with no heat....other than their body heat.) I was surprised because during the day yesterday I had the exhaust fan running which really cooled things down inside and then froze the waters...not solid but around the edges. So now I am back to the drawing board with winter air circulation. The exhaust fan is just a simple 4 speed exhaust fan. I may toy with putting the exhaust fan on a timer....and only have it run for a couple of hours during the day.

Seasoned Chicken Veterans any thoughts about air circulation?

PS the coop is inside a section of the shed and only the coop is insulated the rest of the shed is uninsulated?
