Surviving Minnesota!

Not all dogs need a whoopin' when being taught that chickens are a no-go. They just need control and consistency. I'm willing to bet those labs did not need a 'swat'. I understand that swats on the bridge of the nose are quick and easy to do, and an immediate response. But leash control and redirecting 'hunting energy' with 'calm energy' is where you need to go with those dogs. Switching the brain to other things. Removing them from "the pleasure and presence or reward of chickens' if they cannot control it or calm from being 'birdie'. You can bring them back in a calm manner and try again. And present a calm chicken. If they are not licking or mouthing at the bird then you're making progress. Good firm calm 'nos'. Not excitable 'Nos'.

Jerry I'm sure you have had many lessons through the years with your wife. I think you'll get through this one. But she might have viewed this as a "major purchase". In our house "major purchases" are discussed not secret. LOL. And speaking from the female side of things...that would then put you in 'silent treatment' or 'yelling treatment' depends on where I'm at for the day. If you were being quiet and secretive...maybe she's quiet and secretive about something.....ruh roh....

@Bogtown Chick I think what Jerry and his lovely spouse has is a simple misunderstanding of what a "major" purchase is. Tools and equipment needed to keep or improve a couples lifestyle are exempted from the "Major" purchases clause.

In our case if Judy needed a new washer the "major" purchase clause is null and void... If we need or want a new vehicle the major purchase clause is in effect, we discuss it together. If I need a new truck to maintain our lifestyle, the major purchase clause does not apply.

In this case the sawmill is exempt because in reality it is nothing more than a large skill saw. or a heavy duty hammer. I am sure Mrs. Jerry will read this and realize how wrong she is and prepare Jerry's favorite meal to apologize for her over reacting...

This is a free marriage counseling service I am providing today. No charges will be incurred by anyone.

On cute note or a non-chicken note. (and on the not all dogs deserve a whooping) I was sitting in my recliner in my long johns. ( Yep, you will get to see my undies)....

When my black Lab that hates to not be the center of attention came over and laid by my feet. When I did not acknowledge her she put her hand on my foot so I would pay attention to her.

I thought it was "cute". It is definitely a cold winter days thing.

Not even a cuddling rooster can match a good dog.

What a sweet dog Ralphie. I am not much of a dog fan but I think she's a sweet dog. Is that Reagan?

Lunch break is over . DW and I made up . What we had was a failure to communicate . Got the frame or bed of the mill bolted together . Cold and windy out there . I could not get a large enough area to work inside . Need about 15 x 30 area to be able to work in . I can probably work inside once the bed and trailer package are assembled . I can then put it inside to finish the rest .

Or Minnie Pearl?

When my arm was so unceremoniously broken this summer I used one of my Aussies as a pillow to support my arm. Dogs are so handy!
