I get on average 3-4 eggs a day from 30+ hens. I am worried my Bucks aren't gonna start laying for awhile... I can't currently light the coop... darn... But oh well off. As long as they start laying before January. My Legbars haven't laid since late September or early October... Slackers... One of them has never laid an egg... I think she is Trans... she has 1 inch long spurs and a terrible aggression. If she wasn't "hen feathered" I would say she was a roo! Lol! But they are pretty additions and everyone who sees the birds comment on the "poufy head ones"

Mine have been on lights since thanksgiving and some since Nov' 1st. I have a feeling my first hatch is goingto be small and not have a high hatch rate. If the hens aren't laying the chances of the roosters being good is slim.

I am thinking Ed needs Viagra or something. He made motions like he was going to do his job when I put him in with his two hens, but the hens seemed to run from him and he gave up. One good thing about even a few eggs this early on from his hens I can see if he is doing his job or not and put in a sub for him at the end of the month.

As much as I hate to do it I might just AI some birds. My Cochin hen is going in a cage soon... Yeah I didn't do that the other day. I made a brooder which is going in my basement. I might wait till next year to get a new incubator and just use my Hova for now... Idk yet... it's a lot of money so I have just been thinking on putting money aside as I get it... There is so many things I need and not slot of funding. I am going to sell some mutt chicks this spring to make some cash. I also need to start work again lol...

Don't be mad when I say I picked 37 eggs yesterday :) we are back up near 60% efficiency! Not bad considering I have some BAs that are at least 3 now.

My roosters have become less amorous since I emptied the rooster pen. The 2 young boys I kept have quit their run by attacks and now are drop wing dancing for the ladies. They are still a tad rough though. I see them mount, do 'it' 2-3 times, then just stand there on the hens back until she shakes him off. Poor hens.

Young roosters seem to just take advantage of the girls. The older guys wait, sometimes too long, it seems to get permission. Weinerhead did his job in seconds. The Dom roosters were extremely fast. Ed and King George did nothing. I replaced King George with two other young guys. I would like to use Cuddles, but I am keeping him inside in an attempt to keep his comb from being damaged.
