Surviving Minnesota!

A few days ago I was thinking about how last year tonight i was probably at a prayer service fot uncle Bill. And how many of our family and friends passed away these first few months of 2016, and how lucky we are that no one passed away this year. I guess i jinxed it... Ellen died today, she was like a great grandma to me and she will be missed by everyone. She has been having a hard time for the last year or so, my family was trying to find a day to go and see her but we never got the chance..

Sorry ILL. Its hard to loose a friend.

I am very sorry ILL

Morning . It is 14 here . A few colder days on tap then a warm up about Tuesday . Well the sawmill is ready to cut the first log later today . Going to wait for the heat of the day . I spent a lot of time figuring out where to put the log dogs (clamps ) and stops . Plus the winch . No tips on where as you put them where you need or want them . 2 months and I am ready to cut . About 80 hours assembly time .

-9 in the Northland of Minnesota. Have I told anyone lately that I am ready for Summer? I hate the cold. 8/10 of my toes were completely white last night by the time I got home from teaching Wednesday School at church. Church was cold, outside was cold, and it was only a 5 mile drive home. Glad today is my Friday.

For all my great laying success earlier in the winter I am only getting a handful of eggs from my ISAs and my Aug chicks have begun laying so a few pullet eggs. About 10-12 eggs a day. I "should" be getting closer to 3 doz a day. I even have lights on them. No one seems sick either so I am stumped.

Jerry, I may have missed it but am wondering if your mill is band saw or circular saw?

Sorry for the loss Layers !

Last I looked here it was -2 degrees on top the hill above the beautiful ice sheet. I am hoping for a warm up soon, and I refuse to turn lights on for my hens.

Tempting prose being piled on about those SS, but the single comb is a deterrent. Perhaps Wrangler Ralphie with consulting from Genetics Wizard Jerry could develop some SS with rose, pea or cushion combs ?? There is a worthwhile project for you Ralphie, as if you don't have a full schedule already ?!

How big is the sawmill, is it set up in the garage or outside? are you milling the wood there in Illinois or are you hauling it to mn this summer to use on site? you should post a picture of it ?

The sawmill is a portable bandsaw mill . Can handle 16 foot logs up to 36 inch diameter . I will use it on site at the lake . Need to cut a supply of lumber here and learn to use the mill . Then spend the summer at the lake building . I will need to build a kiln to dry the lumber .
