Morning peeps!
Ralphie let me ask a friend at work Monday if he wants some toads. He has been talking about getting meat birds for a couple of years. He has about 30 or so layers right now.he lives in rush city.
They are crornish cross and what again? Can they fit through a regular chicken door? (That question is for me) I'm kicking around getting a trio from you, just to keep for you, not eat. I can understand you wanting some off the farm, especially if they will destroy your whole flock if an AI is detected. Since mine are pets, I wouldn't mind a trio, as long as they can fit through the chicken door. Lol

If you want some toads and do not have a way to incubate them just let me know and I will throw them in the incubator for you. I just want others to see if they like them as much as I do, and get me a back up source of genes incase I lose my flock to something.

Good Morning Chickeners!

Hey BC - I let my birds free range yesterday. What a hoot to watch as they ran around. Gonna do that again today. The She/He was out and about reintroducing herself/himself to memories of yester year. I have thought that 'it' would be culled this spring, it has never been a good layer, but you know what, she plays rooster pretty good and I think might be good to warn of predators to the other flock members. The DH is away so the hens can play. Burned ALOT of wood for the ashes and they will get a good dusting when those ashes cool down.

Otherwise a good day to work my way thru the house and do some more things outside. I actually got a little color in my face yesterday from working outside.

P.S. Ralphie, I am thinking about the toads. I could be talked into it. Its the brooding that I am thinking about. I am going to learn how to introduce them to a hen and if I think that would work in my situation.

20 chicks hatched from the 22 eggs that went into lockdown. One was a late quitter and the other was an early quitter - that must have been the stinky egg. Not sure how I missed it. I also don't know what any of these little ones are aside from the obvious EE's. I was told pure stock, but I don't think so. The one is a Showgirl. I know that much. First time seeing one!

Life has changed drastically here for us. We had a bundle arrive. This bundle is so very special. She has been diagnosed with Trisomy 13. http://trisomy.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Trisomy-13-Facts2-5-15.pdf We were told she wasn't going to make it or not for very long. Well, she is still here 16 weeks later. We take each day moment by moment and cherish EVERY second we have. She is a strong and determined little babe. She has no medical help except a feeding tube in her nose.

We are in calving season here. Expecting our first one today. In the next 3 months should be about 12 calves in all.

The chickens took about 3 months off of laying but have started again. We are getting about 5-7 a day. Have to say I love our fresh farm eggs so much better than store bought.

Rhett, congrats on the birth of your daughter. Trisomy 13 is very difficult, my cousin had a son with it. Continue to cherish every moment with your little sweetheart. Prayers of support for you and your family.
