Rhetts, congratulations on the new baby. Sorry to read about the medical problems as there is nothing worse in life than having a child in peril !!

On another medical note, I do not get flu shots and advise all to consult with their Dr. seriously before having one. In 1978 my FIL got the swine flu shot and ended up with Guiombre(sp), which is a debilitating illness that results in near paralysis. Some recover and some do not. My FIL was in hospital and home bedridden for many months but recovered fully. He is now 86, but until a month ago would be mistaken for a man 20 years younger. He did not get any more flu shots until a month ago. He is now in hospital with Shingles and Guiombre and seems to have aged 20 years in a months time. Why he got the shot is beyond me ? I will never get one.

@holm25 Yes, the quantity of cows here has increased. You are one smart cookie!! I still have the same ones. I am expecting my highland to have her second calf mid next month and our cross breed to have her first the end of this month. My BILs still pasture theirs here and they picked up some Angus this summer. So they have 10 calves coming if all is well.




Thank you everyone for your congrats and well wishes!! I truly appreciate it! It has been a long road with many ups and downs. I feel so blessed to have been granted so much time with our little one as many never get the chance. We named her Norah which means Honor and it truly is an honor to be with her!! I think the hardest part of the whole thing is trying to prepare the other kids for the impending loss of their sister. As much as we talk about things and try to comfort each other there really is no way to "prepare" ourselves. For now we kiss her constantly, hold her always, and breathe in her smell all the time. The kids are still excited for poopy diapers and never get upset at her for the things we had to give up because she came.

Got a crap ton of cleaning done today.

Cleaned most of the coop, all of the Cochin cages, next boxes also.

I've had a Leghorn eating eggs for a while so the nest boxes are not going to ever have hay in them.
I got them pretty well cleaned though


And my great grandpa was a genius! The eggs always cracked when they rolled down. Here I found out that they did because i had the wire in the bottom wrong! It's supposed to be bent like this, I had no clue til my dad told me today





I have to put the tray back in both bottom and top tomorrow in order to catch poop etc.

Tomorrow I've got to clean the rack and feed room. See if I can move stuff around to make it so that I can fit a chick brooder in there.
I'm thinking of moving everything poultry in there and moving all the horse stuff into the actual part of the barn. My only concern is all the leaks and cracks in the roof that would get the tack wet

Hello to everyone of you chickeners. Windy and cooler today. Not bitter cold or anything like that however I have stayed in a little more because of the wind. I stepped back into the coop/run a short time ago and it actually smelled good! I did get ash from the wood burning this weekend and mixed it into the shavings in various areas. They loved that. At one time there were six bathing together. Fun to watch.

I made a cardboard brood box to incorporate into the nesting boxes. Hopefully. If one goes broody I may be able to take two toads Raphie, if they are still on the table for offerings. Enjoyed their trot/run toward you outside. Yard looks fine.

I moved the first batch of chicks out of the coffin today. They are on their way to being heatless. I have their heater set at 50 degrees tonight for the first time. I expect some angry chicks tomorrow.

That cabin looks in way better shape than mine does. Some people do not even call mine a cabin, it is more of a shack.

I moved a bunch of birds in the last couple days, I am trying to figure out who my egg eaters are. I thought I had it. BUT I did not get any eggs from 5 SS hens so I am guessing I did not get it.

I moved Cuddles (the rooster) into the cage with them. I decided to feed them some treats, I use cat food stuff that looks like hamburger. The hens all came over and were trying to get it out of my hand. Cuddles was right there grabbing the burger threads like crazy. The cuddles would turn and drop it in front of different hens.

He never ate it just gave it to the hens. If he would have moved away they could have all gotten in and taken it from me.

Stupid birds.
