Duane is neat guy but he won't give away any secrets. I told him of our first experience getting straight run of males and he said,let's swap out 2 of the Rhode Island reds and 2 buckeyes. I assure you your son will have a few dominique pullets. As fate would have it he says intentionally sends 1 extra or in my case 3 extra. However one little "guy" didn't make the trip. He got is head caught in the side flap of the box. Rip rir.

.....do hens that are hatched out of a certain color egg.....lay that color egg? EG: Brown egg hatches, hen will lay brown eggs. Blue egg hatches, hen will lay colored eggs. Still playing the "who is laying what!!!!!!" game around here and having a head scratching day so far!

Nope, the rooster has a say in what the chick lays too.

I think you need some Buckeyes! And so does everybody else!

They are by far my favorite breed and are so sweet and gentle!

This is a double sex link cockerel . Sex linked barring and sex linked red . Dad is a Dark Brahma mom is a auto sexing EE . He should be golden but my guess is since Dark Brahma is based on eb brown at the E locus it has a darker chick down .

Argh.  Lice...a few mites on the roo.  Dang it Dangit Dangit!

Discovering this in the peak of laying season is not a joyous occasion.  June carter was depressed looking this morning . Fluffed up a second day in a row.  IDK...I may lose her.  She's never been super strong.  She took forever to recover from her hatch and she has the Scots Dumpy legs on her.  Anyways, she was looking fluffed and I tipped her over to take a look...she did not struggle.  She's got cooties.  I wormed her and did the drops on her.  The laying hens I will get NuStock on and keep up with that.  I'm not doing Ivermectin on their backs while they are laying.  Good thing it's warming up so I can do my favorite job in the coop.

IDK...how it happened...but we do have that group of wild Turkeys coming into the yard every so often.  And I think in the fall the migratories forage in the leaves and my birds get to chasing and are territorial with the tweeties.  IDK.... IDK...

I have lice on my birds, and with the condition my coop is in, I give up on eradicating them. I dust birds heavily loaded but that's it.
Hopefully in spring, when my new coop gets built, I can dust the birds good before they go in and kick lice to the curb.

PS. Despite Ralphie's claims, they did not contract the lice from me!!

I really liked my Wellies they didn't lay the noce dark eggs I wanted. Now they don't lay... I should have some extra feathered out pullets this late summer. If you're interested in some we can talk later this summer. I'm sure Minnie will have crash too!
