Surviving Minnesota!

We had some rain last night and thunder! I woke up slightly to hear the rain and went right back to sleep. The snow has gone down a lot. My girls have been venturing out as well, today they will need to be lured back in :)

Morning . No greenhouse up north . Ralphie the SS eggs weigh 1.75 ounces .

Seemed small to me . Maybe because they are rounder or shorter . My silver maple is blooming / budding . That is usually a month from now .

They are rounder, I actually set one last hatch upside down some how. I caught it at the first Candle.

Well I need to get out there . Been cutting trees and sawing into lumber the past 3 days . Rain coming tonight and a cool down about Friday . Need to bring some logs down from the hill before the rain . Gets muddy going up there . Then I can not get there . Ralphie I may not sell any chicks or hatching eggs this year . Just too busy to deal with it . Limited sales at best . Patience gets short when I am busy anyway .

Morning everyone. Stupid make up days or I wouldn't have school today

. The birds enjoyed the nice weather all weekend. Got lots of done the yard picked up, brooders are officially ready for the chicks. Cochins were finally put back into breeding boxes after being out all last week, they both ksyed yesterday. The hens are kind of picking up but still slacking

Hello fellow Minnesnowtans! I'm glad to have been pointed over here. Thanks duluthralphie! I'm just outside of Duluth, and prepping for my very first flock. I have NO experience, besides being enamored with the chickens at Toms Logging Camp, and now the flock just down the road from us.
We were offered a tractor from our neighbors, and I took to begging my fiancé to put it to good use. Stopped at our local feed store on Friday, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that they are taking reservations for chicks. So...we're off! We're now expecting 2 Buff Orpington and 2 Buckeye (hopefully all hens) at the end of March!
I bought Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens while there, and am in the process of getting as much information as I can now.
I plan to brood in our basement, which is where my home office is, so the kids and I can spend plenty of time talking to and handling our new pets. I know it will get messy, but I'm confident it'll be worth it!
The tractor we're getting is about 4' x 8', and will easily be converted to a permanent coop, as it is completely encased with plywood hatches, and has a pop door and full floor. We'll need to make some minor modifications to get it winter-ready, but my fiancé is handy and will have no problem making it work.
I look forward to chatting with you all and sharing our progress! Thanks!

I'm up. Finally. I slept good last night. Not so good Saturday night. ( that's why I was a winner Sunday AM)

The flock has been venturing out of the run for short field trips on the great white albeit thinner tundra.

Sylvia, Lucy and Daisy crossed the yard and on the deck. Pecked on the patio door and they got some Greek yogurt.
Old hen brains don't forget.
The youngins stayed in the run and were none the wiser.

Time to run. I'm still around just not much happening and reading instead of posting.

Daisy? I am sure I have not kept up on bird names at your house. . . . but then you wrote old hen brains don't forget so that indicates old bird to me. I am confused. Its that kind of a morning.

Good Morning Chickeners . . . .

Barely took the time to catch up on here. Its Grandma Day!! Yea!

And the DH needed some biz information for taxes.

And I still gotta cook some eggs for breakfast

And then there is makeup and hairdo and I wish I could get away with man-hair and an instant comb. I won't do that unless I am staying home.

Hens are doing great. Got 15 eggs (our of 19 hens) yesterday. One was a cellophane egg.

Ummmmm . . . . . . okay - guess its time to move on with the day. Hope each of you have a grand day.
