I'm in AZ, but yesterday a couple from MN came by and bought 7 dozen hatching eggs from my "Aloha" chicken project - an American version of Swedish Flower Hens. They are driving home and going to put them in their cabinet incubator. Giving you guys a heads up in case they appear in your area in the future. It is very rare to see them outside of this state. They are pretty spotted chickens, and good layers of cream colored medium sized eggs.









Hope they get home safely and have a good hatch!

Sharing in case they do hatch, and later you guys are like "What the heck are these, and where did they come from?" LOL.

How am I going find out what they raise....This is going kill me! I need to know now!


My heated areas for the chicks are actually pretty small areas. I am finding the sooner they get out in the cold the faster the feathers come in. Yep, a few die....oh well.

I but one breeding trio of cochins together. I still cannot get the black cockerel and blue hen to get along

As relates to the individual who has chosen to seriously critique the Doms. In my experience there are a large number of people who find being an expert is facilitated by a lack of knowledge related to the subject. Perhaps this man fits into that category ?

I would enjoy a meeting with enthusiasts as per BC's suggestion. As relates to Mensa membership, it is not quite as exclusive as one might think. Approximately 1 in 50 U.S. citizens would likely qualify if they chose to become involved.

Seeing all these chick photos and reading about hatching success has me with an itch to get started. However, I am not going to heat any outbuildings or have any chicks in my house. thus I request that all attempt to resist the urge to post chick pictures or prose related to incubation success until May 1st. I SUSPECT THIS REQUEST WILL BE LARGELY IGNORED, BUT AT LEAST I HAVE MADE AN EFFORT TO CURTAIL THIS ACTIVITY.

Oh! I read through here making my comments and then I do not even stop to say Good Morning Chickeners . . . .

It may be cold until next week BUT the wind is gone! That calls for a celebration!

Brahma crossed to legbar crosses and some EE hens . I see no head spots but sexed these as male based on dark color and the blurry striped pattern like Legbar cockerels . 8 cockerels .
I sexed these as pullets based on pure for silver light color and the darker ones based on more crisp stripes . Some mistakes possible . 9 pullets . So here is your on thing to learn today Ralphie .

Oh boy, I'm glad they are still in egg form yet. Your Aloha chickens would need long-johns if they're acclimated to AZ. Double digits below zero predicted tonight in my neck of the woods. Are the Minnesota Chickeneers Newbs, altogether or just with hatching ?
They sure are pretty birds.

It is spring I guess. Jerry the babies are too cute not to share and what I love most...I have to tell you is seeing green grass growing there in your picture. The chicks are gorgeous and lots of learning going on there but....but green.....ahhhh..... A fresh couple inches of snow a day or so ago and we have winter again.
