Surviving Minnesota!

THIS!!!!!

I saw that this morning Judy showed me it.

That is more proof Cluckies can have a toad. If that one can get through the hole any of them can.

I have 200 posts to catch up on! STOP being so chatty =)

I hope everyone is hanging in there. I can't wait to rip the plastic off of everything! My ducks are finally laying - @duluthralphie , let me know when you want those ducks eggs!

As for dark egg layers, I absolutely love my Black Copper Marans. They're my sweetest birds although I am surprised how often they go broody. But they consistently lay a very dark dark egg. It's a bummer your Cuckoo's didn't work out, Ralphie. I have a friend who got some (hatchery stock) and expected nice dark eggs. She said her Rhode Island lays darker eggs. I'm trying my hand at Welsummer's this year. I can't find anyone with decent stock of BCMs. I wish I had a BCM rooster. This is what I get from my Marans ladies:

All you natural healers, and cures for eczema? The eczema with blisters? I've been battling it a few months. I had it when I was young, I got through puberty and it went away. I'm thinking it may be hormone related... it started on my finger, now on three and moving to my palm (right hand of course). So itchy. :(

Edited fire spelling[/quote]

Cluckies do you mind sharing a good clear photo with me of your palms? I used to work in Derm.

Morning . I have seen white pelicans on the river the last few days . So migration is on . Chicks due to hatch on 22 . Need to get the eggs in hatching trays . I have a fox hanging around . No coons at present . Those dog proof coon traps work really well once you figure out to fill them full with bait like pellets . They never seem to avoid these . BC I have been getting the bluest eggs from 2 pullets in the blue pen . Time to sell the hens and only hatch from the bluest eggs .

I might be interested but I get chicks from that hatching project each year... any lavender Cuckoo pullets coming north?

I am in need of some suggestions.  I want to add a dark egg layer to my flocks.

I have the cuckoo Maran's but I am selling them.  I do not like the single comb or the egg once a week they give me.

Any ideas as to what I should get. I want it to be APA.  I do not want a single comb everything I find is single comb. Then I need to find a good breeder somewhere to sell me some. (must be NPIP)

Thanks.

Ralphie I think the dark egg layers are desirable breeds. I would develop a BCM to be honest before I'd give up on Marans. And tbh I'm being selfish in this request. Minnesota nice will buy from you too...?

I'd absolutely buy some every year. I'd love to know someone with quality BCMs.....*cough* Ralphie *cough*. There will always be a demand for the breed. There is a breeder in Chisago (I think Northstar Marans) that has nice stock. I got my marans from Cyrus who, if I remember right, got his stock from them. They've really been working on keeping that dark egg color while maintaining the breed standard. I talked to the lady a few times, but never pulled the trigger on buying any. Aaaaaaand, they're NPIP!

Ditto on what BC said, if you head North I'd love to buy some birds or hatching eggs from you.

I hear foxes make good target practice.

Cluckies since it's been 14 years since derm I did a quick search to refresh. Dishydrotic eczema vs. pustular psoriasis... do the blisters stay clear or are white then brown as they age?

Clear= is dishydrotic eczema and I'm thinking this is what you have. Western medicine: I saw miracles with Protopic or Elidel. The work on the immune system. Natural approach: try eliminating cows milk. Some have been ok with cheese and sour cream, etc. just the milk gives issue. Maybe try by process of elimination on foods that can be deemed suspicious. Wheat can fall into those allergen foods. Etc. etc.

Right now I can't eat apples. It's a new lovely extension of a birch/ catkin allergy. It hoovers! No fruits with pits either: peaches, plums, cherries... lips tingle and bubble.

If white -> brown blisters then that's pustular psoriasis. Sunshine outside palms up is the natural cure there.

I knew a judge that had that last one really badly. He moved south and joined a nudist club and lived there. He said it was the only thing that kept his psoriasis in check. I thought he was lying to me when he told me that. Maybe not.

They stay clear. I don't drink milk, but I do have heavy cream in my coffee and eat cheese, sour cream etc. I eat very little wheat, just on occasion but thinking I might eliminate it, at least for awhile. i'm pretty much LCHF. Thinking of going Keto. Don't want to give up my cream and cheese though. I love cheese.

I am sorry, BC has forbidden me to ever use the puker again...

There might be some lavender cuckoo coming north . DW is chipping away at my plans with DR appointments . I have a large batch of the cuckoo project eggs due to hatch Tuesday . They have been laying up a storm . Egg color is good on these as I tweaked the lavender egg color when I first got them . Color is mostly good . The pullet pen has 8 pullets and I get 6 eggs a day steady . Some are large for pullet eggs .
