Surviving Minnesota!

We had frozen water puddles this Am. And frozen water founts.

Heading to Duluth for a getaway with the chillins'. Doing water park hotel and shopping, osakas. Good friends going with. Should be fun.

Ed should I bring a parka or are you into a good spring up there?

Hey guys. Haven't been around for a while. But I have a question. Anyone know where I can get Silkie hens?

WOW Long time no hear or see! Glad to see you...

Destiny has silkies. I think you need a polish instead...

Good Morning Chickeners . . . .

So BR - are you coming back to hang around or just to find out about silkies?

Seriously - its good to hear from you as it has been quite a while.

Ralphie - it has been quiet for some time now - YOU have been quiet too.

I went to runnings yesterday to get feed. They had a few chicks. Their chicks arrived today. I am not going back until tomorrow and then I am going to pick up a clearanced coop. It has been sitting there for months and months and months marked from 230 to 200. I go them to reduce it another 25.00 Its six feet long for the run and then a small coop. It was spur of the moment but you all know that I ordered and then cancelled the one at TSC so its really not a quick purchase. Now you can LOL because I am not bringing it home until after the DH leaves for Aitkin on Friday and it will be up and put together by the time he comes home on Sunday. It is for two hens, one being Regina and the other is Ruby, and possible Reggie. He is sooooo docile and such a sweet boy and runs to hide from Copper. This would be HIS DOMAIN!

I am already tired of free-ranging birds. We do not have the environment to free-range. It looks like a ghetto with poo all over the garage apron and the sidewalk towards the back of the house. Nope. Already tired of that. Putting up more fencing this weekend also to contain those chickes to a described location.

Lets see . . . . Ralphie - not coming up any more for now.

I have been to Runnings 4 times. 4 times I have exited with zero chicks. I feel like I need a chick just for a reward for being so good.

What about an extra rooster?

Actually the only hens I planned on getting rid of were my Welsummers. They are getting up in age and MIGHT lay 3 eggs a week. And actually O think only two of them are laying. Pee Wee and another without a name.

How long did you Welsies lay for you?

Ralphie and BC have not been on as much . They keep this thread lively . I so want to start grafting but the cooler temps have me holding off . That and the rain . I bet Ralphie is goofing off trying to train those cats and the cats are trying to trap Ralphie to leave them be .

:bow

Only reason I have made it this long is that the feed store doesn't even have chicks/lings in yet. Just a few more weeks to wait....

I'm not even supposed to be getting or hatching any more til I get my coop up, but you know.... Babies.

Hi BR. So glad to hear from you. @destiny_56085 has lots of top performing silkie birds.
Good luck getting silkie hens from anyone in the middle of breeding season! I'd had maybe 2-3 juveniles in my garage sale pen that are 'maybe' pullets, but they have disqualifications for showing $20 if taken right now and the chance they may start crowing.... Silkies take FOREVER to tell the sex on, especially on the better caliber birds. Most breeders get rid of all extra stock in the fall, not in the middle of breeding season. You have a much better chance of picking up chicks this time of the year.... This reminds me... I have to find an article that relates to this.
