Surviving Minnesota!

Well, just came in. The wind is beginning to blow. Been a wonderful morning. Inside and Outside. Mainly putzing around the yard, trimming, cleaning. Started to clean the chicken run. Phew! Too much bedding and food mixed that was pushed out of the covered run. I will wait til it dries out.

One BO is still trying to brood. She has at least half a dozen eggs under her now. But then she gets off at bed time and goes to roost. I take the eggs then.

Starting the process of undoing all the yard work that I have done in the past twenty years. My goal is that by 2020 the front yard is empty again. Mow grass - nothing else. So I am somewhat starting to strategically cutting back. The 10 x 20 raised vege garden will be the last to go but there is a hedge and plants and a huge oak tree stump along with 2 dwarf apple trees (which I think will stay so I do not have to dig them out (I am incapable of digging them out). A bunch of other stuff - say - honest - does anyone want some climbing roses? They will go over 9 feet tall and are gorgeous and they spread. I have a good inventory to pass along - began them with just one stem about five years ago. Its a good reason to meet.

Jerry it's a small town. But the average age of the population is 72 so there's that reasoning.

Why does everybody think I'm a lush? LOL.

Jerry enjoy your sunny day. I need to do some wood splitting on some of those popple. They big.... DS is at a golf meet tonight. So I'm thinking about going to Park Rapids to Easter shop and get him. But I really should be outside instead. ... IDK...

I lost one of my all time favorite birds yesterday... Did an autopsy and it took about 2 seconds to realize what was wrong... Hole in her crop and it leaked fluid, grass and feed into her breast area. I have pics and a video of me doing a complete amateur job of an autopsy...

RIP Big Momma

Well we bought a new bull. Boy is he a good looking bovine. Purebred Simmental out of Mr. Olie and a cow that raises some of this guys best calves.

Soooo does anyone need a SimAngus bull who likes to be brushed? I think Ralphie could use him to eat the deer away from his apples

What color are your roses? Do you have to do anything to them in the fall to winterize them or are they naturally hardy?

Quote:
Naturally hardy, I do not do anything with them except trellis them - great for an arbor. They are a rosy pinkish color. Not red but look like they could become red - very pink and very profuse. A few are going to the neighbor but believe me when I say I would not plant more than three. And a good idea would be to plant them into a large plastic planter dug into the ground. Unless you want roses to keep splitting. I did not know when I purchased the first two. Holy Cats!
