Yep - thats where Tom Hanks beak was broken during a confrontation with my DH. I did the burrito wrap, laid him on the dining room table and he was very quiet as I glued and wrapped. How did this go for you BC? Tom's healed nicely.

OH NOOOOOO not Broaster. I was looking forward to some offspring from Broaster.
Why do birds feel the need to commit suicide by cage. On Sunday night I had the opportunity to test a flock of 11 turkeys for a 4H family. But unfortunately as they were caging them for testing one broke it's neck. I felt soooo bad for the family. Thankfully, the family was a family with older kids so they understood death but it still doesn't make it any easier.
We are considering adding on to the chicken barn. I need some input and recommendations. What did you do that you liked, what works for you, what should I stay away from? Thanks in advance!

Very concerned about the fire ILL. Ideas for light on the tractor sound good.
BC - how did the beak surgery go?
Jerryse - good for you on gently swaying Janet for summers in Minnesota. She probably saw the handwriting on the wall. Yet, she still hasn't admitted this to you yet - only in a conversation (you did not hear) on the telephone.
Went in for an annual exam yesterday. My 'Welcome to Medicare' exam. Holy chickens! Question after Question. But it only covers their nosey questions so that they can get a handle on a persons' health and what Medicare may be laying out for that person in the years to come. New Adventures.
Only a few days from Rosie hatching eggs. I know there are four out of the original five that she has kept under her. Probably happen before Saturday. I put 6/25 on them for a date but I think it was actually two days before that she began sitting. I notice her out walking around drinking water and some food intake and I look in the nest and another bird will be sitting on the eggs. I check once a day to make sure it is only the five eggs under her. Ofter there have been two or three added. She just lets me pull them out, check the date and put them back. Such a nice girl.

On Saturday I purchased the four-foot metal posts and four-foot chicken wire and installed the run around the back and side of the east side of the garage. The original run is on the north-west side of the garage. This about doubled their run and therefore, I am not letting them run free. Once in a while as a treat I will let them out. Maybe on Sundays. Whatever.
I had the opportunity, this past Sunday, to watch a bald eagle lunching on a rock in the bend in the river just next door to us. He did not like me watching so he (she) picked up the fish and hoped to the river bank. It was at least 15 inches long so quite a sight (the eagle with the fish) Again, did not like me watching so picked it up to go find some privacy. DH saw it perched on a downed tree just up stream last night. Eye balling the coops is what the DH thought. Looking for dinner.

With the heat I am using it as a excuse to get stuff done inside the house. So Sunday I turned on the AC and worked on sandwiching a quilt on the dining room table. The DH was moving logs up on the lot in Aitkin. Did I say yet that he may have found a contractor to build on the lot in September or October? This guy is out of Grand Rapids. Anyway, as I worked on the quilt there were many kayaks traveling downstream throughout the day. Very peaceful and nice scenery to see while working inside. I love getting older.
Ralphie I am sorry to hear about Broaster... What a stunning bird...
That Legbar looks good! How did you manage to get a pic of your legbars? Mine run about the time I open the run gate so I can never get pics of them...
If you want to you can give me a day that you plan on washing birds and I will be there if you want help. I have to pick up some stuff anyways

lvie. Im thinking I will have to try another patch job tonight. I didn't get the greatest glimpse but I'm sure the bottom portion lost it's stick somehow. or wasn't stuck the greatest to begin with...probably.
The deer flies and horse flies are so nasty. One of my black cockerel Ameraucanas has a puffy eye. Junior had one the other day. So did Patsy Cline. They look like prize fighters the whole bunch.
How do cockerels kill themselves in the cage. I probably don't want to know...but do they just keep pummeling themselves against the wire or what? Nut jobs.

MNChickMom I have Broosters babies in the winners circle in my mind. He was so perfect. It happens though. last year it was Jerry with the coons this year is my turn to lose the good ones. JUST do not get rid of any SS roosters. I could need them before this circle of loses is over.

Holm you need those birds, I have cut them back to 15% grower right now. They need higher but I need to watch their weight for you too.
So much to do so little time to get it done......The scheduling of this surgery was not the smartest thing I have done this year.
