Surviving Minnesota!

You guys type fast. Lol

I'm lagging. Yeah get the coop well thought out. Then get your birds in the spring.
I've had some started birds with lice and mite companions. So another reason to do chicks...

I have done it both ways - another suggestion is keep on talking on this thread. There are many here that breed birds and sell them. Holms, Ralphie, Cluckies (?) and you will get a reputable bird from them. Only thing is that they may be straight runs. Which does not mean that is negative yet in a 6 x 8 coop you are talking four - maybe five birds. So straight run? What are your thoughts chickeners?

Beautiful flowers, Erlibird!!

Ejb and Ralphie, I had no idea I'd be jumping quite so seriously, but in for a penny.... I really am planning on some PCs now. Looks like I need to get serious about coop construction. I'll let you know how it comes along!

Thanks Tfred and welcome!:frow

I have no heat on any bird except cuddles and his precious comb. I might try to heat a couple Legbar roosters combs too. Again do not tell Judy she thinks I spent too much to save Cuddles comb.

I have no insulation, I try to have ventilation and no draft. I actually keep one side of my main coop open to the outside all winter.

Tell her it would be cheaper to bring him inside the basement all winter.

That would be the first place she would look,,and Cuddles would be at the door wanting to be held...

He is the most demanding rooster you have ever seen about being held...

He jumps up on the cages and crows until we walk over and pick him up.
Aww, tell her it's your new dog that happens to crow...
