Surviving Minnesota!

TFred. Holms can make impossible stuff happen.

He can sell Roosters in September and barn cats.
He can sell snowballs to Minnesotans in January... just leave Mrs TFred up to holms...lol.

Ralphie, lvie, Erli, Jerryse: I'll be working Saturday I just found out and not on fun chicken coop stuff... but that's ok as this helps pay for fun chicken coop stuff. So if a Friday luncheon is ok...that would be best for me... but certainly do whatever.

We have to hear from Jerry before anything can be final.

Morning all, I win again.

It is an elderly person night. I just can't sleep anymore, so why stay in bed.

I am headed out of town for the Morning. I need to stop at Fleetfarm today and get some new chips. I finally got rid of the old ones I got such a bargain on. So glad they are gone. They were listed as a "medium flake",,if they were a medium flake, I am of a petite build. Truth in advertising passed them by.

I am thinking of trying the shipping pads I use for chick shipments as a nest pad. I am so tired of dirty eggs and birds kicking whatever I put in the nests out.

Is anyone interested in some good Dominques. I have about 15 pullets I need to get rid of. Several are show quality, I just had too many good ones this year. Mainly pullets but I could let a show quality Cockerel go too. I have at least 4 of the cockerels that are of that caliber.

I hate to send them away on the freezer camp bus.

First cup of coffee is in the tank, need to start number 2.

Did I mention, I solved my fighting PC hen problem? I had a PC hen with an attitude problem. I had 2 PC hens in with Ed in a pen about 24 inches tall. When I put the third hen in she would immediately run over to one of the hens and start beating the crap out of her. I tried several times with no luck on her being good.

I thought Ed would stop the fight. He did not. After heavy consideration I moved Ed and the 2 girls to a pen with a 3 ft roof. I put the Mean girl in the cage and she went over and started beating on the one hen. Ed jumped into the middle and put the nasty girl down. He stood between the 2 of them for10-15 minutes and just stared at the mean one.

I could see her whole demeanor changing. Ed let her have it a couple times on the top of the head, then topped it off with some rough sex. She has been a perfect angel since then. No fights. When I had her alone she was eating her eggs. (A really rotten hen that looked good is all she was).

Yesterday I picked eggs, I had not picked since I left for Waverly Saturday morning, I had 9 eggs from the three girls and none at a peck mark in them... Once again Ed has proven what an amazing rooster he is. Now if he could just teach his
ne'er-do-well son Weinerhead to be as good as he is. I am thinking of skipping Weinerhead's generation for finding a good behaved son and going right down to Knucklehead's generation, if I can get him over the emotional damage caused by living near Foley......It has taken a toll on him, but I did hold him yesterday for 2 minutes before he bit me! Progress!!!

Good Morning Chickeners . . . .
I am establishing the habit of reading this thread again. It is addictive to find out what you all have to say. And such a time waster when there is work to be done. Oh well, I guess it will be what it is.

Friday works best for me to get together. Then I will skippy-do over to Aitkin for another peaceful weekend. Unless I am already in Aitkin and skippy-do over to meet up.

I would love to have room and board for more chickens and next I would have space for your left overs Ralphie. I don't. I know someone who could use them though. Let me know if you want me to pass the word.

I know it is hard to believe but I don't have much to say which means I need to go start throwing more stuff away. Remember, I am in my 10th year of downsizing.

Good Morning Ralphie and Ivie and whoever else might be on. I have just about nothing to say... Just goes to show how interesting my life is:lau:hit

My little Dom escaped the other night so I figured I would take some terrible pictures of her while she tried getting back in. Ralphie I really think her shape is coming around? What do you think? It seems like she just keeps holding that tail a little higher as the days go by and I'm sure that if she wouldn't have been freaked out she would have been holding it higher? But her head is shaped a little goofy isn't it? Or is that how they are supposed to be shaped? I think maybe a her top part of her beak is a little short?

The chickens didn't want come out of the coop this morning. They all sat on the roost half hour after the pop door was open.

I think the cockerel club is giving everybody a run...

I would like to report...Destiny is the only person I know that goes to a swap to get rid of chickens for winter, and comes home with twice as many animals as she left with...

:lau

BTW She (or her daughter really) is the proud owner of 400 kittens. Her daughter collected them all weekend!

:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau

I thought it was cute.
LOL, i am trying to trap a pregnant feral cat right now, i need a mouser

Does anyone want a lone Turkey in 28 days?

I am setting toad eggs today, and I had a not so bright turkey lay an egg yesterday....

If anyone wants a free pet turkey, I will set the egg. if not, it will become an omelet soon.....
send it east

Ughhh more of those things with claws that twine around legs non-stop... Am I a bad mom because I was secretly happy that the horse's smooshed the last ones she drug home? 1 made it into the house and has already destroyed a couch and is working on a recliner. Could be worse... My swap friends send her home with mystery boxes. Its included hamsters, guinea pigs, a hedgehog, 10+ parakeets, etc. This spring she brought home a pony...

I sold more than I brought.... Got rid of 11 muscovies and 10 or so silkies. I bought some button quail, 1 pair of silkies (new variety as a project), and 2 pairs of really nice bantam Cornish. My kid got a horse manure fork so she can help with chores, a jollyball for her horses, 2 bags of horse treats, and some wormer for her pony. ....lol... the new purple manure fork hasn't helped her do chores either, she's off playing with her new kittens. John said the official count through the gate was about 1850 adults plus all the kids that got in free.
how old is this child? she sounds like my little one
lol

Ralphie, I believe you are using some type of modern math in your chicken counting ?

Tfred, there was a man named David Bird I believe that lived near Deer River that had extremely good Buff Chanteclers. He seems to have dropped from sight, but maybe Mike Gilbert has some idea of what is up with him ?

Ralphie, the Dominiques sound very tempting. The originals came from Duane Urch didn't they ?

She looks good but get some red putty to fill in that hole in the middle of her rose comb!...:lau:lau:lau

Just remember combs are only 4 points...Her tail will come up more.:thumbsup

The SOP says the beak should be "short, stout and well curved"...The color should be yellow.
