Surviving Minnesota!

Hi peeps, hope everyone is doing well. still working tons of overtime. Sister and baby are doing really well, I got to baby sit a week ago Wednesday, she slept the whole time exept when eating, lol.

Cluck-cluck is sick again, sour crop I think. not sure what else. i'm treating her for that (again). we'll see. The other girls are all at some stage of molting. Mother is starting to look good. goose is just starting. Ticia is on her second mini molt, she does 2 mini molts a year, one in august, one in october/november. Fi is the only one looking and acting normally. She usually molts in november.

Busy of course, was out last night with a head lamp picking up leaves and putting them in those large fleet farm paper bags for winter fun in the run. I had to pick them up before it started raining, don't want moldy leaves/grass to give them.

My garden is all done except for the carrots, I had to pull every thing a couple of weeks ago, already had 3 hard frosts where I had to scrape my car windows here.

Stay dry everyone!

@destiny_56085 considering those are your two main breeds you sure don't promote them? I agree about the hatchery stuff being junk but I don't find my Silkies to be hard keepers at all? In fact they are my easiest keepers? They dont make near the mess that my big breeds do, they eat 1/2 as much, mine use the ramp up to the nest boxes? I can't say anything about Polish because I have never raised them but I don't find what you said about Silkies to be true? The vent and crest trimming is Easy peasy? Maybe I just easy keeping Silkies? Not trying to cause drama I'm just saying that not all of what you said is a fact? More of an opinion? (which we are all entitled to)

I will put in my opinion on silkies . Wonderful broodies not good for much otherwise . The better show stock are terrible layers . Like 12 eggs in a year . The poor quality lay 2-3 eggs a week when not broody . Broody most of the time .
Definitely not a good layer. They are more of a " for fun "bird for me. I could use a few more broodies... I think if I were to buy more I would go with whites. I like the look of them better than the partridge.
