Ok. Yes its not the best time... I just can't sleep with an incubator in my room. So I usually try to set under my broody in September but she wasn't broody then.Layers I think the broody can keep the eggs warm. I just don’t think it’s a great time of year for chicks with a broody.
That's it!
I kept going back to Gilbert but I figured I was just thinking about Mike!
He didn't by chance get any Partridge Silkies from you did he?
Some may think this is cruel but if he starts biting you in an aggressive way just punt him. Knock the wind out of him if you have to. But I would just as soon eat an aggressive rooster...
Good job.I went out this morning and he did go after my feet again so he met my boot up close and personal. I stuck around for a few minutes after that and he left me alone. Maybe he will learn afterall![]()
Back in October a friend texted me that her silkie had snuck 3 eggs and hatched. I thought a broody could take care of chicks in any weather.
Not always. She found one chick lifeless. And the other two not doing so hot. Just a matter of moments playing and zooming in the cold they were in trouble. The new mother couldn’t carry or lift them back to the coop. So this lady did take the chicks from the hen and is brooding in the house.
When you want to have chicks in the winter you need a game plan for the animals’ welfare.
