Surviving Minnesota!

Morning to all. Time to wake up Ralphie and Jerry.
Nice photos of your hens BC.
I have hardware cloth for 4 ft on my runs and 2x4 wire up to 7 ft. I also have the 2x4 wire over the top so the owls can't get through it.
Snow yesterday and 6 more inches forecast for Wed. night and Thursday. I guess it is getting in to serious winter mode now ?

I will need to have a neighbor girl watch the chickens for a few days next week. We have not been through real cold weather with them yet. She has no experience with chickens. I was hoping to just have her let them out, give water a couple of times, collect eggs, and put them to bed.

What other things did she need to watch for? Should I rig up a heat lamp or something? Coop unheated, ininsulated. Shavings for bedding. No feed. Run open.

Thanks, y'all.

What are the temperatures predicted? I really doubt you need a heat lamp. Your routine sounds good, it's about what I have my chicken sitters do. Make sure to tell her to feed them. :p
