Surviving Minnesota!

Oh Banty. Yuck. Anything a tidge warmer in the forecast?

Bantams in the basement. Cold for cunnuck standards even. Just the extension of this winter cold.

That standard roo just looks like he’s been beat bodily with a stick. Worn out. I don’t regret putting in the premier lamp. Girls a fluffed at 6 pm last night. 20 degrees in the coop. Thermometer hangs from a rafter though. Pretty soon I can open the run.
We're supposed to get above 0 in a few days, I think/hope/wish. :fl

Two of 'em are okay in below zero temps for a week or so but when it drags on and on they start losing condition. The third is a total wuss that is going to stay in for most of the winter. What I won't do for that bird....
If she weren't my pet she'd have gotten souped years ago. But, she's so sweet that here she stays, stinking up my basement all winter. In 200ish birds I've raised total she's the least cold hardy.

Sorry about the rooster. :hugs Hope he's okay.

Holms has obviously taken that Guinea photo with a strong telephoto lens ! That -1 temp is criminal. Even here by the big lake it was -17 this morning.
Ralphie what all do you have there ?
I used my IPhone! I haven't used the camera since February if I remember correctly....

I think he’ll be fine. Just need a warm up.

I’ll keep bringing him up for scrambled egg and mini warm ups. He looks like a normal chicken when he’s in my house. Just having freezing wattles. May be bothersome ( painful) I’m sure. Roger my previous roo got fairly sick. I went to expensive vet and got cephalexin for him. But he was stinky infected too.

Banty I’d do basement too. Prolonged cold is rough on them.

Ralphie, give us the count on chicks by breed ?

I do not have a count by breed. I did not mark the eggs or chicks as I planned to keep them all. It appears I have plenty PC and SS for showing. I am low on Doms and Legbars, I will have to set again for them them.

Holm, read above. I have trouble telling some PC chicks and some SS chicks apart. I have trouble with the male Legbars and the Doms.

The SS like to be difficult they can look PC'ish or Female Legbarish. I know I am low on legbars because of the number of blue egg shells I have. It appears "Ol One Eye Jack" is not up to the job. I will be bringing another rooster inside. BUT it wil be a month before he will be able to breed. So "Ol One Eye" gets 4 weeks with the girls before he moves outside.

I do have the white Legbar rooster inside, but not one of his girls eggs hatched. I have no white chicks. None of the Toads hatched. I might have to put lights in the other Toad coop/run and the other legbar coop run.
