Surviving Minnesota!

Jerry I couldn’t see your Facebook link... but I’m sure the birds are lovely and neat! And good little boys and girls with their good start in Minnesota. Lol.

Anyways I think we stayed ahead of the snow. A bit of slush and accumulation when we hit Milaca yesterday. DS was driving bravely for me. We found a car for DD and picked it up in Zimmerman so she and DH in that car. Crap roads really and I’m sure they were not nice later after we’d passed through.

We had a 1/4 skiff up here. Roads clear this morning already.

Pearl the lavender is broody . She was on the nest when I got home tonight and then again at roost time. 4 eggs pressing on her breast. Little crazy momma wanna be. I pulled her off after dark and set her by Junior. Hopefully I can nip it in the bud with a cold dark night tonight.

4-5 eggs a day yet. 32 eggs while I was gone last week. Best production week so far this year. I want more birds. But honestly this number is perfect in the coop.

Ralphie loved video of the black hen walking up the sidewalk and holms your video of the bossies. Layers your old times photos of the long horns and Herefords.

I have to get the new camera out to the coop.

Kitty’s bumble foot healed impressively after surgery and while I was away. Junior lost a dead toe at the first knuckle as expected.

And Sadie Mae appears to have bribed grandma out of a whole bag of duck breast jerky while we were gone.

If you come on back down here, I can load you up some snow to take home with you.

@holm25 I thought you had some in already..duh

I have found a little joy today! my all knowing bossy cell phone is not always right! I just got an alert at 9:15am saying snow would begin at 9:20 am....

That little Bstd* got it wrong!! It had started snowing well before 9:15!!! Piece of junk, I knew it!

*an adult word that would get me detention if I used it here. Originally used to describe a child of unmarried parents in royal families.

My favorite way to use that word is a fish of the lily pads’ poop.

If you come on back down here, I can load you up some snow to take home with you.

:celebrate

So these things I proudly brought back from Texas: a Sago Palm pup (not sure if it will make it) to baby. Vanilla beans, and picked off the tree yesterday oranges.

The Sago palm is ornamental down there. I believe there is just one plant in the whole cycad family. There are male and female plants . But both will throw ‘pups’... either by runners or by sprouting off the ‘trunk’ . The runner dirt babies are better but harder to separate. This one I took from a trunk and has quite a scar to harden off— I’ve been watching tons of YouTube videos.

Vanilla beans from Mexico, they were $2.50 for seven. Up here in Walmart they were over $7 for two. I like making home made ice cream with these.

And then of course Valencia oranges. Super sweet and juicy...

Had to make a trip back to the farm... Before I left I told my grandpa that a heifer (my favorite and the friendliest) was a little twitchy and lifting her back feet and I couldn’t bump a calf in her anymore and he figured we should put her in. So we put her in the calving pens and I headed for home. Not an hour later and I get the call that she is in labor and I may want to come back out.. Boy oh boy was she having a heck of a time so we decided to go ahead and pull it. We pulled the calf and it was a dandy of a bull calf... We didn’t even have to put her in to pull it... She’s a good girl and went straight to licking her baby.,.
