It finally rained here. As dad and I were watching from the machine shed we realized it has been 3 years since we have gotten a rain like this. Not sure on total inches, but we had 2 different storms come through. First one was forecasting hail, and a tornado touched down 5 miles away but we were lucky enough to only get the 45 minute downpour! So thankful for it, this should help the hay crop so much hopefully it keeps up

With your low hen to cock ratio your cock is bound to be aggressive to the hens since there aren't as many to share the love

That's what I thought. It's one of the reasons I wanted more hens. Hopefully he'll chill a little bit. Though I've got replacements for him if need be.

Yes I washed it in cold water. I love asparagus and couldn't just throw it out. it was probably stupid to eat it but so far I feel ok.

Me too. .we wrapped some in bacon the other day and cooked it on the grill. YUM! Never tried growing it though.

The males drive each other. It won’t end until you are down to one. If you want to keep more than one male I suggest a bachelor pad. They are going to keep harassing the hens and possibly reduce your production due to stress. Wear feathers away to bare backs. They are most definitely hiding due to overbreeding.
Pretty soon — if free ranging— hens will separate themselves from aggressive roosters leaving him on his own. They sneak away. Chickens have a way of showing who needs to be culled from the flock. It’s usually the one that is singled out of the flock dynamic. A loner. Sick hens do the same.

Is it possible that my 2 hens that I keep kicking out of nesting box aren't broody, but hiding from the rooster?

When I kick them out he immediately dances for them and then aggressively chases them around. Tonight I saw him grab one of them by the back of the head with his beak until she squealed something fierce and got away again. He does this every time I kick them out.

Tfred I wouldn't worry about it. I have six rooster in a flock of 25 hens and I have zero problems. Only one has a bare back. I hobbled a rooster one time... It was a couple years ago but he slowed down...

We are getting more rain right now, we are right on the backside of this storm.
