Surviving Minnesota!

erlibrd, did you find the used part for your vehicle ? I would expect they would be readily available through salvage yards ?

Curious as to how many in this group allow broody hens to hatch chicks ?
Seems that most much prefer to use an incubator.

We found one on ebay, couldn't find one locally.

Morning all.

Bummer about the car erlibrd..

41 is just a kid...

I have too many broodies also. They are to unreliable and their timing is always wrong. One of the girls hatched a chick, killed it and is sitting on dead eggs now,,,Another is hatching golf balls, One is just sitting on bare wood in a nest box,

Holms. I'm 48. Check yo'self. :old

IDK if I'm afoot or horseback right now. Work is nuts, still going to graduations, trying to find time for gardens still. My one day off during the week it rains. And the labrador has developed a Seroma the size of a lemon at her surgical site 16 days after surgery. Too much dead space and undermining to pull her back together . Another run to drain it Monday. To find it this morning the same size. I hate this...

And I've decided in my fickle ways I want winter back and mosquitos gone, knitting on my lap and a yellow dog not getting into trouble with cysts.

Her ankle breaker holes in the yard are growing a lovely kentucky bluegrass shoots right now. We'll see how long they last. She had blown through the fencing i had around them for chickens to not eat the seed and redug 2 of them. We had our 'come to Jesus' meeting and I feel confident.....

that I'll be refilling them in July.

Welcome back Ivie. I've missed you. I understand BYC addictions.:highfive::hugs

On the news front: wish I could get pics of the kiddos with the new comers. Seems punkin is the new fan fave. Caught the 5 yr old sharing apple slices with her and "dotty". :D
Threw in some sunrise morning glories, we will see how they grow with my pink day lillies and callas that I insist on over wintering every year ( they were my wedding flowers) up next is to get some blue hydrangeas in some time in the future. My horde of callas around the mail box have slowed traffic before ;). Still collecting irises for along the house. So been busy planting a crazy mix. Tending chickens and chasing kids. Writing sermon and continuing on a 30 day prayer series for praying for your husband for a ladies group.

My husband insists I'm crazy but I dont think after 11 years of insanity he would have me any other way. When I act "normal" he starts to worry and fuss.:gig

I am still upright and taking nourishment.....that is about it. Chicken tending has been turned over to the kids and hubby. This work transition is not going smoothly.....everyday someone walks out. On a positive note in about 125 days the payroll should be a cake walk! :lau:gig

I live vicously through you guys in your gardens. I am looking forward to a weekend to myself though as I have chosen to stay home and tend the homestead while the family goes to a cabin. (Our chore person didn't work out.)

Did Gloria go back to her broody ways ?
Nope shes kinda trying to figure out what to do. But as for a update the speckled sussex has been dubbed dotty the vacation bible school kids named her. They enjoyed a popcorn party after the kids got done with the pool. And I just have show off my blue laced red girl

dont mind the messy yard and chicken tractor

Got the last stragglers moved out to the summer pasture, they were happy to get out. Bulls go out Saturday, Sunday, or Monday. Last week I demoed halter class(horse) to a local club and the next day I helped with some poultry showmanship, that was fun. Next year I am looking at starting to judge other county fairs, for rabbits and poultry, if I can start at 17. My county Fair is in 2 weeks, I am not expecting good results as the birds look awful, but it will be fun. We have had quite a bit of rain and it is looking way better then it has in the past couple years.
I am selling out of my blue and splash cochins due to so much stuff going on. I have 2 Blue hens, 1 Blue cock, and 1 splash cockerel. I am keeping my whites and blacks for sure and maybe adding buffs this fall.

This is the white pullet, she is the fastest maturing one I have. She shows a lot of promise already! Now to keep them clean..
