Surviving Minnesota!

Milkweed in Road ditches is about the only 'safe place' for them any more, until the county mower comes. LOL. I still have yet to harvest a few pods and start the milkweed garden I've been talking about for a few years. Bobbij you might have eggs and babies on there that you don't know about...?

They were such a weed on the farm and the resort for all those years. Who'da thought back then that we'd be losing the monarch in such large numbers.
I dug me a start off a road ditch a few years ago and now I have a good size patch of it. I've tried and tried to harvest the seeds and start it in other places but it never comes up. Any idea why or what I'm doing wrong? I guess now that I have a large bunch I could try to dig some up and move to new places but why won't the seeds come up! I thought it was supposed to be invasive. Apparently not when you want it to be :hmm

milkweed seeds need to go through several weeks of cold before they will sprout, did you do this? You can keep them out of your fridge by planting them outside in the fall.

Hope all are doing well. It is starting out here as drizzle and fog. Clearing is predicted, and I hope that is correct as I need to get some training in to ready my birds for racing which starts next week.
I do not see much milkweed or Monarchs around here. Perhaps I am too much in the woods?
I trust that Jerry is making progress on his building project.
Holms, do you now have birds which will be going to State Fair competition ?

I am ok just busy . Spent the first 3 days logging . Started building interior walls . Need to get 2 more logs milled . Once the walls are done then on to roof rafters . Probably a week away .
Keep up the good work. I suspected you have been hard at it. One of these years you will be able to come up to the lake and just relax ?

Some pics of the young ones at 16 weeks. I missed one of the pullets, but they were busy with the choke cherry branch I tossed them.
