Surviving Minnesota!

The butcher steers are getting big... in the last 70-80 days and the three are on 2 5gal buckets of “steak maker” a day... One in the morning and one in the evening... I’m sure they weigh 1000 something? Gonna miss these boys... They are baby dolls and are so much fun to be around...

Good luck fair goers. I do not envy the Twin Cities locale but I do like the state fair. I also like lots of pictures.

Ralphie are you on a time zone dysfunction with 1 hour of sleep?
Or the Alaskan long days keeping you rolling?

Yesterday was a funeral for me. family friend. Then some work. Then over to Jerry and Janet's to inspect the cabin. Jerry is getting his rafters on like crazy. I believe they said they leave for Illinois soon. Back mid September.

Life continues to be busy with work, growing teens, fun summer times, Dad's cancer appointments. Mom mostly goes but sometimes I go to give her a break. The 'sometimes' add up. And of course it isn't always the funnest of situations. But Dad makes a good road companion and we end up laughing at each other. Well except when he's grumpy. And the laughs remind me that I won't ever regret the time consumed doing these Dr. appointments.

The barred rock pullet sometimes roosts in the coop. The dominique and BO babies like to still go in my garage. So I get to make two trips at dusk to the coop at tuck in time. Striped buzzards first. Then Louie and Lola (yellow feather in her hair) on the next trip down. In that order because the Dominique is freaked when Lola is gone. Louie is another sweetheart like Junior was. Very dainty, skiddish of humans. The Dominique is flighty, crows like crazy, crafty diverting Lola away from Louie. I think he's going to be a turd when the hormones really kick up. My thoughts are to rehome him right now. But family is against it at this juncture. Given the fox problems. So far no problems since they are brooder brothers. They bump chests and and do some hackle feather flares. But Miles (Dominique) wins usually since Louie is non-aggressive. 11 birds total.

I'm over .5 birds for coop square space. Getting rid of Miles would make for a roomier winter in the coop as well. It's my current chicken dilemma.
