If your welded wire is 2 inch by 4 inch it will likely prove inadequate. A weasel can do tricks through it and then go right through the chicken wire.
I have hardware cloth on the first 2 or 3 ft. of my outdoor runs. That will keep out most predators.
Since I'll be gone most days, I'll have to make sure it's pretty bulletproof. My question is won't the weasel/mink etc just club up and over the hardware cloth to get into it? Or is it more of a deterrent?

They do not seem to climb...if they stand on their back legs and do not see a way in they seem to give up,,,

No one said they were smart.....

Holm's enjoy the pigeons but don't use them for target practice.

Varagol, what Ralphie said seems to be on target, although he seems to be more concise and serious now that he is running for office.

Erlibrd, good to see you on here. Have you been on vacation?

Guess what? No not chicken butt. It is raining again and those doomsayer global warming people seem to be full of BS. It has not been warm here for some time. It is beginning to look as though the area that will support the cultivation of wild rice is expanding. This is good news for the dux.

Morning. No recent vacations ejb, although I’ll be vacationing in Duluth this coming weekend :hmm the weather looks a bit dreary.
