Surviving Minnesota!

Got home last night about 8 . It was raining and flash flood warnings . No flooding in my area . Had to cut my trip short due to weather . Grey rainy stay at the lake . Snow Friday morning so I packed everything away for the year . Got my old donkey back home . :gigCurrently 68 here and a high of 82-85 . Going to be humid . :(

Good to here from Ralphie and his adventures . I am not the only one to have bad luck . Sometimes I feel like borrowing from someone else and call my place malfunction junction . :gig So this summer at the lake we went through 2 TV s , dryer quit and the refrigerator not working right . No time to fix things with building . Tried on the dryer but no luck . Refrigerator may have a bad fan . Camper refrigerator still works . So one old analog TV quit . My brother got a new one so he gave me the old analog . Then it quit . So Janet bought a new TV . Coons got into one pen here a few days ago . Lost all 6 or so chickens . So time for predator control .

Jerry you are missing a 40+ degree day with misting rain. There's a big surprise and it appears and sounds like it will do that for an indeterminated number of days thereafter.
On my instagram a gentleman who does woodwork in Indiana was ogling the lavender Ameraucanas.

The whiplashed lavender Pearl has recovered from her neck issues post Bobcat thrashing. I figured she might have had a chance since she was eating and drinking there the whole time. She is now tuned into every red squirrel movement and is town-cryer. No rooster, means the hens are sharing duties quite alot. The Welsummer Patsy seems to watch gaurd along with Pearl the cryer. The only layer is the barred rock pullet who is the food finder. With the leaves falling they are really getting some new forage. Busy busy.

I don't know what to make of that poor vent TFred. It's basically up to how much time you and your family has and committment to keeping her cage clean etc...for a couple weeks. There might be loss of musculature on that open vent...that controls many things for the important cloaca. You may do all of the things required for 2 weeks and still have to cull her. IDK... Poor little gal.

We've got a few going through hard molt. (one feathered pocahontuses out there) and then some with shortish gorgeous tails and vibrant winter down coats. You forget how gorgeous they are in their new parkas.

One lavender is fairly loaded with blood feathers. Tilly. uff-dah.

Busy weekend for the family. I collected Straw from a source I was glad to find (not hay) and some pumpkins and raspberry preserves from another pumpkin-u-pick place.
Went to a wedding reception with a couple of friends.
DD is horse sitting again and tried her hand at deer bow-hunting. No brofies but they got to watch 9 turkeys near their blind. I'm sure her and DH will go back out. So glad to see her doing it. She's more comfortable with a bow than a rifle. We've found out.

DS worked the wedding helping with set and tear down. Bar-backing, etc. Then he went to the pheasant farm with DH and the dog yesterday. Sadie has decided farmed pheasant smells too much like at home and will only flush. She looks guilty when bringing the pheasants back and then quits doing it altogether after one or two. DH has cussed me under his breath I am sure of it. eeek.
Dux are no problem for Sadie Mae-Mae. For that I think the cursing stays under his breath. :D

This weather is the pits for all but waterfowl. We do not have to worry about draught here anytime soon. Next they will be saying Lake Superior high levels will be the result of global warming. What a crock that is !

Crab Apple wine!

I wonder if they get headaches in the morning?!

I lost that hen on Saturday night/Sunday morning. BC, I wondered about the musculature too.

She ate and drank ok, but never woke up Sunday. That's 2 in a couple of months that have died similarly. Hmmm... now I have 2 crowing roosters and 6 girls. Not really how I envisioned my flock to look. Also only getting an egg every couple of days. DW is not a happy camper. Got more eggs last Oct with 4 new hens.

Sorry to hear TFred. Yes the eggs get low on older hens in the fall. If it wasn’t for that charming barred rock pumping them out we’d be out by now. I guess I did find a clutch of Ameraucana eggs too that has fortified us. Stole em from a hiding broody. We’ve been adding a hen or two every year and have had something here and there. Also have a friend with a flock of 80 s few miles away. She s probably got some eggs to sell.
