Morning . 39 here after 10 yesterday morning . Temperatures going to drop fast this afternoon .

cold again....ground is still covered with 3 feet of white fungi...

I am not even sure I can get out on the lake because of the fungi...

The next fungi drop is scheduled to start shortly after noon. Looking at the 10 day forecast is depressing.. Nothing above freezing, just more below zero and fungi drops.

I lost a toad yesterday, My Pullet. I am afraid this maybe my fault, I had given her to Hoover. After Hoover jumped bail, I put her back in the other toad pen. Apparently the toads have a keen sense of justice and considered her a Hoover Groupie....... I am afraid the future of toads is bleak.

Ralphie, I would find a beekeeper in your area that would place a hive or hives on your property in exchange for pollination services and perhaps a jar of honey. This would eliminate the expense and the work.

The snow here is as deep as I can remember for the last 30+ years at this location. It has become mildly depressing. The clearing the drive, walkways to the house and paths to the outbuildings is not that much fun any longer.
The sunshine and warmer temp yesterday did help.

51 here . Shirtsleeve weather and a one day only event . Even had little sun afternoon .

Weird day, We had a mini-blizzard for a couple hours then the snow stopped and sun came oot (canook speeling)...

Now the wind is blowing hard, and the mercury is dropping...5 eggs today.. 4 turkey, one chicken eating egg....

The chickens decided today they like the spent brewers grain. They have been turning their beaks up at it, but I refused to feed them layer feed until they ate the grain...

Today, they refused the layer feed and dove into the spent grain...
I bought a concentrate to spread on the spent grain to add vitamins and minerals. I think it will still save me money.


Bert the (whatever number he is) is having a bad day. I decided to move him after the death of his Sister and wife yesterday. The other hen I put back into Bert's pen has the feathers missing on her back and she is hiding in the corner away from Bert. Bert must have learned from Hoover the fine art of forced sexual contact....Bert will be in a week long time out for his behavior. After that I will give him supervised conjugal visit, until he learns some manners. I also caught him searching the nest box as if looking for an egg....Bert may have to be replaced if I ever find a Male toad.
