Surviving Minnesota!

We’re building a turkey house (for winter lodging) a root cellar & a greenhouse (hopefully). He hasn’t got the slightest inkling. It’s a secret. It’s too cold. I don’t want to worry him.
:lau Your secret's safe with me... He'll find out when he needs to know. I get you, Cindy! When are you going to plant the idea so he has enough time to think about it and claim it as his?

LOL He’ll think about it on his own. He’ll be worried about the turkeys and the geese and the overflow of chickens and the quails... He’s very tender-hearted with animals. He knows wild turkeys live out here with nothing but feathers but he will not be okay with that. The turkeys may sleep wherever they want that’s inside the poultrys’ covered yard, but I do need that extra space for other poultries.

As far as the root cellar, that could be a challenge. First I would like to have roots to cellar but I’m not sure we have a long enough season to grow them. I could be over-reaching there. However, we are newbie tractor owners. I kind of think he might really get into digging a hole in the side of the hill with that new backhoe. He’s happy on that tractor. I’m glad, because I’m just scared I’ll do something irreversible and, well, unfortunate.

The greenhouse he’ll do just because he loves me and he knows I’ve always wanted to garden and have never really had the chance. Our season here is 89 days frost-free. That’s a good year. So....

But... we have several poultry tractors to build first, and an electric strand to run over top of the perimeter barbed wire fence, and we have to figure out some kind of portable shade structure for the cows... so, lots of stuff. I’m tired of sitting around inside wishing for the not-cold to happen. :)

I have a hoop greenhouse. It’s great! I haven’t started seeds in it in the spring yet, but I have put plants in it a week or two sooner than I could plant them outside, and I have picked fresh tomatoes as late as November 5.

OMG, I feel you. I just want the cold and the snow to LEAVE!
I spent about an hour in with the chickens yesterday wishing I could do something besides just observe, but with the snow banks, not much going down for awhile yet. I did separate out my roos that need butchered, but I prefer to do that outside, and again, it's a bit impossible for now.
I saw the turkeys mating though, so spring is actually going to happen, right?

The list of building projects is long and daunting this year for us as well. I haven't tried to hide any of my ideas though and hubby has offered to use some of his vacation this summer for our projects. We are expecting another grandchild this summer, so scrapped our usual vacation plans so that we can be in the area anyway.
