I think I’d like to put my red “color yield” meaties and my buff geese out in my Suskovich tractor. Together. They’re all about three weeks old. I feel pretty confident the meaties will be okay. I’ll park it on the south side of the house in reach of an outlet for a heat lamp, tarp the back (which will leave only the front uncovered), and point it south.
The meaties are pretty well feathered. The geese have no feathers. They’re still covered with down. They’re getting too tall for their brooder, though. I’m not sure what else to do with them (they are three geese and a gander). I also have four turkey (BBW) poults who are still doing okay in their brooder though they’re getting a bit tall also. I could take out some of the approximately 8” of bedding, though. I’m not sure they’re up to the rough & tumble of hanging out with the meaties. I’m thinking I’ll keep them inside for a while yet.
Temps have been in the 30’s overnight. Grass is beginning to come up—tiny, but growing. I have turned off the heat panel for the meaties, but the garage is heated. Many were sleeping clear on the other side of the 6’ galvanized tub.
I could keep the geese in the garage, in the meaties tub for a couple weeks longer, but I think they’d like the tractor better if they’re up to the cold nights. I’m going to need that tank for my next group of around 30 poults & chicks on May 10th.
