Surviving Minnesota!

Beautiful... only thing is, there’s not supposed to be a lake here. If anyone is ever tempted to build on the property next to us, I’m gonna show them this picture. It’s my civic duty, after all. The little white thing on the far shore is my chicken tractor.

It was a real nice day today, and yesterday and even the day before. Three in a row! Can’t remember the last time that happened. :lau No, I really mean that. But there’s lots of things I can’t remember, so it doesn’t mean too much.

I moved my hens and BBW poults (now as big as the hens but taller) up onto the hill in the hens’ summer house (a fancier tractor) yesterday. The stilt coop is getting crowded—littles getting bigger. I ordered “shock or not” poultry netting from Premier One (for babies) and am gonna build them their own tractor and put them up on the hill, too. Their yards are ankle deep in muddy mush. I almost lost one of my mucky boots. The geese like it, so they can stay there. At least the coop is dry.

I got a ducky!!!

Three to go, hopefully. Two are pipped. I can’t wait up for them, though. Going to bed. Night, all.

The little duckie can’t seem to stand up properly. I would think it was spraddle-legged if it was a chicken but I don’t know much about ducks. Is this normal for little ducks? There’s paper towels in the incubator where it spent the night and puppy pads in the brooder, but it can’t seem to even stand on my hand.

He was kind of flopping around in the incubator, but I figured he’d get the hang of his feet once he had some rest and some time. I’m beginning to get a little bit concerned. Do I need to get out the vet tape or does he just need some more time?

Nice day here too, I have been in town most of the day. I went on a ride before I went to town, Sneaks tripped at one point and fell all the way down and rolled over a ways, I wasn't able to get off fast enough and ended up with my left leg pinned under her. Sneaks is all good thankfully I was worried she had actually hurt herself.
While in town I donated blood for the first time, I think I will be a regular now.

Little bit cooler today.
But the mosquitoes!!! I was outside a bit yesterday and they were a blanket on me. I don’t recall a hatch like that for sometime.

Yesterday we took Dads ashes to little falls veteran cemetery. I can not describe in adequate words the vision of two Marines in Dress blues carrying my father’s urn and flag . It was a site to behold. Then the gun salute and taps played so delicate. It was certainly a day filling my senses. He’s buried under a gorgeous white oak, and the Mississippi is flowing just through the woods a little bit. Amazing place and service.
Chickens are doing good. Sentry keeps the girls in line and they show him around as he gets a feel of the land here. He sends out a crow every once in awhile. The littles are fraidy cats. Wow. They aren’t big adventurers as I would like. But we’ll get them going I guess. A few days outside but that big hydrangea bush should be leaves out more for protection than what it is too. The young ones like overhead cover. Probably just smarter than my other broods. There we go...
