Surviving Minnesota!

DSCN1103.JPG

For my friends in the frozen north . There is hope .

I have Randy roosters for breeding, eating(stewed) or target practice.

This year they have turned in a nasty mob. Two roosters can’t even eat because the others drive them away from any food they find. It doesn’t help they are so stupid they announce to the world when they find food.

The hens are getting beaten up. One hen has left the flock and moved into the machine shed with the wounded cat. She comes running to me, and stays right next to me when I am outside. I think she knows I will boot the boys away. Yes, you read that right, I now boot them away. No, not with my toe. What kind of monster do you think I am. That would bruise the meat.

Interesting reading for those of us that catch up infrequently. The weather has been less than desirable here by the big lake. Had another 4 inches of white precipitation in the last couple days. High temp yesterday was 28 per my thermometers. The flock free ranges but their travels have been very limited.
The snow pack difference between my place and the intersection of Hwy 35 and Mn 210 is quite remarkable. Even your old ranch in the Blackhoof valley may now qualify for admission to the MN Banana Belt Ralphie?
There are many Southern migrants (bird and human) that have returned up here, and they are thinking that was very poor timing. Winter has a firm grip here yet.
I was looking forward to some landscape and gardening projects, but they will get a late start.
Getting my race birds conditioned for the upcoming old bird race season has been difficult due to the bad weather conditions, but the 2022 young bird team is hatching and will be requiring additional management.
As Mark Twain is rumored to have stated, " the worst winter I ever experienced was a summer in Duluth".
