Susan Boyle Didn't Win

Robin'sBrood :

After watching a news story about Susan almost quitting the show due to stress, DH and I were discussing this today. I really don't think Susan could handle the kind of pressure that winning would have put on her.

I read a interview of her priest on Catholic News Agency that came out a couple of days after she made her debut. He has known her all her life, and made mention that he was happy for her, and also worried. He said she somewhat mentally challenged due to problems during her birth....and that she doesn't handle stress well. If pushed over her limit that she can cope with, her behavior can become erratic, he also mentioned that she has been teased alot during her life. Sad, I don't know why somepeople are so cruel.

I just love her, and think she is wonderful....and was disappointed when she didn't win. However, it might be for the best....considering how hard it is living in the limelight.

Aw, shucks. I wanted her to win. I must be one of the few people in this country who doesn't like or watch American Idol, but if I were able to watch Britain's Got Talent, I wouldn't have missed that episode.

I wasn't that surprised she didn't win. Her semi-final performance seemed a little shaky. (I haven't seen the final yet, need to check YouTube). She has a great voice, but part of her appeal was that she was unspoiled by fame. That would have completely gone away had she won.

Actually I am glad on this occasion she did not win.... I think she needs a lot of time and counseling to be able to cope with the kind of world wide fame that she is going to have.......... she is now a "star" anyway............. go Susan!!!! her voice is amazing.....

I completely agree with you, EC. She was endearing to people when she was her sweet, homely self. But we know what fame and fortune do to people, don't we. Had she won and been "transformed" with a makeover, many of the same people who had "loved" her the way she was at first would have turned and started making fun of her, picking apart her every move. I'm sure that's already happening some with her little leather jacket mini-makeover, but can you imagine how bad it would have gotten for her if she had been awarded the title?

Next step would've been a centerfold in Vanity Fair. She should get some record contracts from this. A voice like that shouldn't be confined to a church choir.

I agree, but I don't think that Susan will deal well with being thrust into the limelight (even though it's already happened to a degree) and am glad that she can (hopefully) move a bit slower since that she didn't win. I'm concerned about her mental health, not about where and how she can use her voice.
