Susans Hens

Another thing has been on my mind, this has been bothering me since I first shared pictures of my non show quality Ameraucauna chicks.
People told me that they were Easter Eggers. That because of some of the traits required by the standard of perfection for poultry showing we’re not present meant they were not Ameraucauna. After doing some reading I found out that genetics don’t always express certain traits such as muffs and beards.
This is my black Ameraucauna hen Freida, she has no muffs and beards, both parents were purebred. The price I paid reflects the fact that they are not show quality.
Easter Eggers are more than an imperfect Ameraucauna. My Easter Egger Roo is amazing. Im going to stop being breed snobbish, and stop shaming Easter Eggers

Last night I collected these, the bigger one laid by honey brown, the smaller one either by Mary brown or frieda.

OMG,
I just discovered my hen Red Neck, a black sex link with red feathers on her neck, may have gone broody !!!
Its been her second night in the nest box, took her some food and water and she was very grateful for it. I got the broody trill when I went to pet her, also the broody fluff up, where this is my tiniest 2 year old. I wonder what it will be like to hatch chicks in the fall ?

Hi, Iwasnt sure where to post this question, so I’ll put it here.
I was wondering what is the best I can do for my black sex link broody hen. I never asked before but what can I do for her ? Not much is written.

Provide her feed and water close by, (within visual sight) so she just comes off nest, short distance.
Often the broody's do loose much body mass when incubating.
If she is not eating the feed,,, consider placing it so feed, and water are up close, so no need to leave nest.

Thanks, I tried moving her yesterday, but she got pretty upset. When I brought her back to her nest box she settled. I’m canning peaches today, but will check on her periodically.

Also I wanted to post a picture of my hens enjoying their frozen treat. My broody red neck got one as well

Oops, well again good morning
2 of my Pullets have become so friendly, since they have started laying. They are both becoming lap chickens. So much so that if I don’t offer a cuddle, when they approach I get a peck….and a hard peck at that. Here’s Mary Brown, and my eggs.
Today I’m going to make some more frozen treats. They seemed to like it. I’d like to find some time to coop clean as well. Found some Dolomite lime. Was going to put it on the ground under the shavings, but I’ll have to research whether it is recommended for coops.
hope everyone has a good day, after this year we all deserve it.
