Suspicious Los of Diamond Doves

Once I found a young Dove dead with feathers around. I thought the young one had a fight with the parents. No after a few months another one found dead. Looked like electrocuted (though no electricity around) Both feather lower ends had a quarter a cm black areas as if burnt or dried blood that could be scrapped. Upper lip of the beak half missing with same black crust over there too. I placed the cage in the varandah. It was an egg laying female , the male is perfectly fine.No other injury anywhere on the body. In the morning I found the eyes had sunken deep. The bird was found dead in middle of the cage in sitting position. Any guess?.

Stress is why it probably died in the cage. But I’m not too sure what injured them in the first place

I suspect small sized rat that could squeeze through the half inch spaced bars of the cage.
