Hey so I'm total rookie to chicken colour genetics... specifically trying to work out how to improve the hackle colouring (black closer to top of head and better white outline of hackle feathers) also wing and tail colouring.

Then there is the wing colouring this guys is pretty good

But our other roosters is shocking

LSC#01 has really good hackle feather colouring though sorry to be a pain I'd just like to learn so I can improve our flock with selective breeding thanks

Light Sussex are Wheaten at the e locus, eWh/eWh, with Pg/Pg for the hackle. Now it's a constant battle because Wheaten does not lend itself for the best hackle pattern, eb/eb brown does, but that would put a pattern on the saddle as well, but that is not admitted on the standard.

The genetic make up of their phenotype is eWh/eWh, Co/Co, Pg/Pg, S/S. In contrast Silver Columbian birds(like Columbian Wyandotte) are eb/eb, Co/Co, Pg/Pg, S/S

Here for comparison(check saddle pattern)

That makes sense but now I have another question 🤣 (I am sorry)
Our LSC#01 Rooster came from "show stock" the hens were admittedly to the SOP (the people who had got them paid $250 a hen) the rooster they had acquired from elsewhere and he did not impress me (I can't remember why)
Anyways those were the parents of LS #01.
We showed him last year and the judge said he really liked him, but his back should be longer and his chest fuller. Now he has great hackle feather colouring but a shocking wing colouring and white in his tail... I have since been told he isn't a PB that he must be a Columbian wyandotte (this person is not a poultry judge but now I'm second guessing on him...) would the judge not of picked that up though if he was a cross? sorry this is so long!
I guess I'm asking IF he was a 25% Columbian wyandotte (he is just over 5kg atm at 11 months old) would that improve the hackle colouring in my sussex? I know I'd have to selectively breed out the short back but my hens have long backs and full chests (rectangles on legs 😂) would it be worthwhile or should I get another judges feedback 🤔

I can't coment on that.

Do you know if a light sussex cross Columbian would produce e^b base? Which would be dominant eWh or e^b?
Also is single comb dominant over a rose comb? Thanks :)

eWh/eb chick down is mostly creamy like Wheaten but with a brown middle Stripe.

Rose Comb is Dominant over Single Comb. Rose Comb is R/R, p+/p+, single comb is r+/r+, p+/p+, Heterozygous Rose Comb(R/r+, p+/p+) are mostly indistinguishable from homozygous one.
